A dolphin has been spotted swimming up Melbourne’s Yarra River, reaching as far as South Yarra. Melburnians have reported seeing the dolphin in the river near the CBD and in the inner-east, with some posting videos to social media. Researchers say the animal appears to be a healthy adult bottlenose dolphin likely following prey into the waterway. Port Phillip Bay is home to more than 120 bottlenose dolphins and more than 30 common dolphins which are known to occasionally venture up the river, according to the Dolphin Research Institute. Authorities are urging people to keep their distance and avoid approaching the dolphin. More from 10 News Melbourne: 10.com.au/news/melbourne
