#OTD in 1961, Major Robert M. White was the first pilot to exceed Mach 5 in an aircraft. Flying the X-15, White reached an altitude of 107,700 feet and a speed of 3,603 miles per hour.
The highly successful X-15 program provided valuable data that contributed to the development of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo spaceflight programs, as well as the Space Shuttle program.

Final exams for Soyuz training: passed. I used to dislike exams, but after a few decades I appreciate the useful stress they create. It sharpens focus, exposes gaps, and helps the crew get ready for the real day. It’s called eustress. Looking forward to July 14.

Today, @POTUS signed an Executive Order to accelerate U.S. innovation in quantum technologies and strengthen our national security.
The Trump Administration will execute an ambitious agenda:
➡️@ENERGY will develop the first quantum computer powerful enough for scientific discovery by 2028
➡️@DeptofWar @CommerceGov @NASA and @ENERGY will deploy quantum sensors and networks in the next 5 years
➡️@DOL and @NSF will expand quantum apprenticeships and workforce training
➡️@CommerceGov will strengthen domestic supply chains
➡️@FBI will bolster quantum research and IP security
Altogether, this national effort will initiate a new era of quantum commercialization capabilities here in America.

Great to be back at @NASAJPL and spend time with the people driving some of NASA’s most ambitious missions.

I bought Shift4 stock, the company I started 27 years ago, that serves predominantly hotels, restaurants, and stadiums, because it was trading at a multi-year low and permissible under my ethics agreement. I sold all SpaceX stock, any indirect equity exposure to it, and any other aerospace-related companies 18 months ago when I was first nominated for the job. A billion-dollar sacrifice I was happy to make to serve my country. I suspect I will be worth much less coming out of public service than going into it-- and that is completely fine!
