New educational tool in my clinic from wife's godmum. It's a model of RYGB. I was so excited like a small boy when I received this thoughtful present! Tq kaima!
RYGB= gastric bypass, gold standard metabolic bariatric surgery for treatment of obesity.

Glad to be a part of this global initiative. Moving beyond BMI/Weight loss in obesity care.
Ted Kyle@ConscienHealth
At the @ObesityCan Summit, patients, clinicians, and advocates delivered a simple but powerful message: obesity care needs to aim for goals beyond weight loss – for better health. HT: @pattynece @busetto_luca @DrSharma @DianaSherifali @seanwharton conscienhealth.org/2026/03/30/set…

In less than two months, I’ll be heading to Montreal to present a talk at the Canadian Obesity Summit.
.
Looking through the speaker line-up, I see many familiar names. My mentors, colleagues, and friends from the other side of the world whom I haven’t met in person for quite some time.
.
Am I excited? Absolutely...yes!
.
If you’ll be there too, let’s catch up. 🤗 Drop me a message here 👇

- What other assessments of obesity do you suggest in Mr A? Justify.
- Elobarate your treatment plan for Ms B.
- Any pregnancy precaution required if we prescribed GLP1-based meds to Ms C?
- Narrate the outcomes of these patients based on the known trials.
.
I was really tough with the Klinik Primer Cherang group doctors when it comes to Obesity Medicine education. Because we have uncovered many topics together over the last 2 years. Therefore, there are certain expectations from them. 😆🫣
.
And being a medical lecturer, we are trained to tailored learning outcomes based on students/audience background knowledge/skills. 👨🏫
.
Nevertheless, they managed to answer well, and ask very good questions back to me. 🫣😅👍
.
Always a pleasure to be sharing with this group that's so motivated in obesity care in the community all across Malaysia (35 branch clinics). Thank you Dr R, Dr S and the sponsor for making this medical education event a success!

Some of you might have met Debbie at the recent GLP-1RA launch events in KL and Penang, sadly I had to miss those. 🙏 But we ended up bumping into each other at the airport!
.
All the best for your obesity medicine education tour in 🇲🇾. Glad you managed to enjoy some of Penang’s famous food too 😆
.
*Debbie is an obesity medicine specialist with a family medicine background. She’s the Director of the Obesity Medicine Fellowship at the University of Texas at Houston. We’re also part of the same organisation, the @OMAsocial, where she is a Master Fellow and a multiple award recipient.

Round 2: GLP1-/GIP-RA therapy for DM and Obesity 🇲🇾 consensus meeting.
.
It's not only about sharing my experience, but also to learn from other experts; endos, cardio, nephro and gastro.
.
Truly a mind opening discussion! Thanks for the opportunity! Super excited to see the final document 😍

How do Malaysians actually access obesity medications? And more importantly… how do we fund them?
.
On Day 2 of my trip to India, at the Dialogues in Diabetes Conference, I shared our Malaysian experience. The realities and the barriers we still face in obesity care.
.
It’s far from perfect, even now. But the passion to keep pushing for better care gets me going.
.
Grateful for the opportunity and the meaningful conversations.
.
And yes, for those asking, I'm already back in Malaysia for...2 days. Clinic sessions & academic works as usual. 🫣

How to build a metabolic health workforce, for obesity care in my case? I was tasked to provide my inputs for this topic in the inaugural Global Metabolic Health Alliance meeting.
.
With my background in family medicine, of course I emphasized primary care! And the most effective way is through the early medical/allied health education in med school/undregrad training. Melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya.
.
I admit, it's hard to suddenly implement a new obesity care curriculum. The planning, accreditation and implementation of academic programs. Not easy! 😅 Therefore, most HCPs of various fields will learn after they start working.
.
We must have adult learning focused methods of delivering the contents. The phrase 'Just for Me, Just Enough, Just in Time' for adult learning must be adhered to because these HCPs are all working adults.
.
Let them uncover rather than we cover the topics in obesity management. Hybrid learning of online self paced learning plus interactive assignments, with hands on attachment help complement learning experience.
.
I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing the discussion. Thanks Amit & Khine for the invitation. Super fun meeting with flavourful Indian cuisines!

Let’s be absolutely clear: obesity is not a crime, and people living with obesity do not need to be “jailed” to lose weight.
.
This Beijing-based programme may lead to short-term weight loss through forced exercise and strict dietary control, but it does not treat obesity. Once the 28 days end, weight recurrence is highly likely if biology, mental health, environment, and long-term care are ignored.
.
Framing this as a “penjara” approach reinforces weight stigma, shame, and fear, not health. Obesity is a chronic disease, not a discipline problem.
.
Obesity care must be evidence-based, sustainable, and dignified.

My 33-hour New Delhi work trip has come to an end. It was my first time in India and honestly an amazing experience. Warm hospitality, good food, and a strong scientific programme.
.
Beyond presenting my talk, it was great catching up with old friends and making new ones. A nice way to close my overseas obesity medicine education trips for this year. Looking ahead to 2026.

Pic 3: Finally met Volkan, EASO President, in person after being Facebook friends for some time. Even more honoured to hear he was looking for me before I arrived. Hope to meet again at events next year.

Pic 5: Catching up with Banshi, past president of AIAARO. Very active in diabetes and obesity education globally. Kind of him to introduce me to many leaders of India’s medical societies. Cheers 🍻
