Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey cost $375 million to make and market ($250M production + $125M marketing). It needs over $700 million at the box office just to break even. That’s an insane amount of money for a movie that’s already facing backlash for disrespecting Greek history and culture while casting zero Greeks. When you spend that kind of cash and the audience is already skeptical before it even comes out, it becomes a very dangerous gamble. Hollywood loves throwing ridiculous budgets at these big prestige projects, then acts surprised when they struggle to make the money back. Who else thinks this one has a very steep hill to climb?

The aura around Christopher Nolan is gone after this. He hasn't made a good film in 10 years. THE ODYSSEY needs around ~750m to break even (250m budget + 150m marketing and theaters get roughly half the split). It will break even at best.
