Through cassette tapes families were able to hear the voices and messages of loved ones with repeated listens, and respond to messages without the pressures of time and cost. They played a significant role then within the Pothwari-speaking British-Pakistani community. #cassette

“Anyone who moves from one country to another feels alone, especially if they don’t know the language. We sisters wanted to communicate but we had problems writing letters...(so) I started messaging on cassettes to my sister, I used to tell her about myself.” - Zareena Darr

🩺 Dr. Wise Will See You Now 🩺 Pandemics have long-held status as fictional devices but silent film 'Dr. Wise on Influenza' (1919) is one of the few surviving UK-based films with information on the 1918 influenza pandemic. 1/2 @SonyaBattla2 @dsgnhistorian @cyriennebft #tbt

Disease and death have always been part of living in London. While modern medical science and public health systems have enabled us to defend against plagues and pandemics, the people who walked London’s streets before us had to rely on other resources. #TBT #DesignInQuarantine

Plague doctors wore a mask with a bird-like beak as protection from diseases like the Black Death, believed to be airborne n spread by miasma, a noxious form of ‘bad air.’ To counter this the long beak of the mask was packed with dried flowers, herbs n spices. #Mask #TBT
