Update, two of the outside institutions did not place their stents meaning Utah has placed five of the first six.

This milestone includes the first 3 TIPS placed in humans at the University of Utah, followed by the 7th and 8th implants in the nation just days later. This achievement represents the next evolution in TIPS technology and reflects Utah-IR’s rise as a leader nationally.

The Utah IR team has successfully implanted five of the first 8 including the First-in-Human 6-10mm Controlled Expansion Viatorr Stent, marking a significant advancement in Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) procedures.

IR at the U of U has made some amazing changes the last 2 years.
Adding service lines (PAD, GAE, PAE and advanced portal interventions to name a few).
But the biggest changes we have made are the culture shift in our section as well as the addition of multiple senior staff.

In my mind, the prior operator checked on fluoro and said “yup, looks good boys and girls, let’s wrap up”. Op report did say fluoro was used. 27cm length chosen on a right IJ perm…
Needless to say, pt came to me 2 days later for exchange.
