On May 20, the bridge between Verus and @ethereum was exploited for over $11M in a highly sophisticated attack. The hacker abused a parser flaw between Verus and #Ethereum smart contracts, allowing fake withdrawal transactions to be recognized as valid cross-chain exports. After the exploit, multiple Verus nodes reportedly failed validation, pushing the chain close to a halt until DeFi operations were emergency-disabled. From Wormhole hack to Ronin Network hack and now Verus, bridges remain the weakest link in DeFi 😶
