@sitch_monitor @clockstiqqun @bobo_circus there's a bunch of caveats i could make but yeah on the grand scheme of things i guess i don't disagree though it's still far from a strong indicator. it's not a very salient point wrt "hot trans women are higher class because they can do sex work"

@dummsurfer @clockstiqqun @bobo_circus okay but you do realize, hotness has also always been a class indicator, right? Like, richer people tend to be able to feed their kids better, afford healthcare both preventatively and correctively, etc etc. You don't see half as many pretty people in poverty.

@clockstiqqun @bobo_circus but even beyond that, class is a material issue. even if you were right about who can do sex work, just having the ability to do a kind of labour that generally pays like shit doesn't really put you in another class.

@clockstiqqun @bobo_circus i don't see you doing that unless you mean "survival sex work" which is not a specific form. what you imagine sex work to be is however clearly just informed by what you imagine it to be like for online models. "hotness", whatever the fuck that is, isn't always even a concern!

@clockstiqqun @bobo_circus just completely unserious. your idea of sex work seems to be limited to online modeling (which you don't really seem to understand either) and from that idea draw the conclusion that "hotness" is somehow a class indicator. seems rather like resentment than class analysis

@bobo_circus so, either A) the circumstances which produce survival sex work only exist if you're hot enough for sex work or B) there's a certain degree of deprivation in which your death is 100% guaranteed if you're not fuckable enough. obviously my contention is that it's B

@GalacticAxekick @Leophilius poor wording on my part, i agree that it's a very useful thing to understand for a multitude of reasons! it's just when i encounter people like the one quoted in op my thought process is something like "sure, whatever. so what?"

@dummsurfer @Leophilius The use of it today is being able to recognize ancient discussions of God as discussions of reality e.g. to recognise "God's Law" as the political, economic & cultural demands that material conditions put on the working classes of the crossroads of the Old World

I am literally conceiving of a world without God right now. Also, it doesn't make sense to say that something “is existence”. That's just gibberish.

@GalacticAxekick @Leophilius i don't think it's really very hard to get once one gets rid of the notion that god's a sort of person. but i do also wonder what's the use today? it really doesn't seem like the world is all that different if we affirm it to be god (unless we start tacking on other things too)

@Leophilius @GalacticAxekick i'm not a christian or any other sort of theist but my understanding is that god is being in the sense that they're synomyms. you could say the same or at least similar sort of thing by saying that god is the world, god is reality, to be is to be within god etc if that helps

@TarribleParson @xrafstarguts i wouldn't call it amazing or anything but certainly playable. i think a lot of disco elysium fans don't really read books and as a result find the game to be so singular that even the idea of being influenced by it comes across as offensive.

every disco elysium copycat is uniquely nauseating, as if the sole lesson they absorbed from playing it is "people love this, and i want to reenact what is desired without any human feeling or understanding". the king of comedy of game ripoffs, a litter of pupkins

@Jaestens @Dacidbro @OtherFish_ the only special behaviour retain cards have is that they don't get automatically discarded if they're in your hand at the end of the round. since ethereal cards are exhausted if they're left in your hand, the retain ends up doing nothing.

@Dacidbro @OtherFish_ I don’t know anything about slay the spire but can you forcefully discard a Retain card normally? If not, that’s where this comes in. Use it or lose it is a risky gamble for a playstyle where you go big or you go home. But if you can force a discard this is pretty dumb yeah

@bobblesyawn @AspirinJuice425 @eepyeri transphobes coined the term to make their transphobia sound socially progressive. it's the same sort of thing you're trying to do here by arguing now it's a slur. but terfs aren't really progressive in any sense. you're fascists!

@Cary_Bleasdale @BigMeanInternet you're taking left-leaning liberals you've seen online as representative of communists engaging with classics. it's also not like pointing out a work of art is bigoted in some manner is intellectually dishonest. that's not the same as saying it's shit.

@Cary_Bleasdale @BigMeanInternet you complain about a lack of intellectual honestly among a group of people you clearly aren't even familiar with lol. also tbc i meant t. s., not george, whose personal politics and most famous work were both fairly straightforwardly reactionary.

@dummsurfer @BigMeanInternet ...they DID kowtow before, so a brief interlude of extremely basic intellectual honesty doesn't suddenly restore the trust they lost. "We fucked up really bad, BUTnow we're doing the bare minimum" does not impress.

@Cary_Bleasdale @BigMeanInternet i don't think you speak to a lot of young leftists. writers much more reactionary than melville (e.g. eliot, mishima, céline) often receive praise from communists. they just have no trouble admitting that, say, racism is racism even when that appears in something they like.

@BigMeanInternet Leaving aside all political /economic differences. One thing that's clear about anyone who is both young and to the left, it's that they'll make no serious defense in the face of any accusation of a work being problematic.

one of the more engaging things about this article was its bizarre claim that one needs to be a us resident, 18 or older to receive a gift. certainly, i received many gifts before being 18 years of age. and not once when receiving a gift have i resided in the united states!

@CapablePerform1 @cadetinpanama @keewa @Atrios why are you imagining that every public bathroom has the same layout lol? have you never ran into single stall bathrooms? and why are you imagining that people are walking past available stalls? nobody'd probably be worse off if that did happen but still it's just baffling lol

@dummsurfer @cadetinpanama @keewa @Atrios Except not really, especially since the disabled stall is always furthest from the door whereas the priority seats are closest to the door. If you use the disabled stall, that means you've walked past the available normal stalls.
