The @MofaNepal convened its Ministerial Development Action Committee (MDAC) meeting at the Ministry today, chaired by Hon. Foreign Minister @shisir. During the meeting, its performance (so far) for FY 082/83 was reviewed and assessed. The meeting further focused on overcoming operational hurdles and challenges. Hon. VC of the National Planning Commission, Dr Gunakar Bhatta, and senior officials of the Ministry, along with relevant officials from different bodies, were present.

H. E. Mr Sergio Gor, Special Envoy of the United States to South and Central Asia, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Mr Shisir Khanal, at the Ministry today. During the call on, discussions were held on further strengthening Nepal-US relations, with an emphasis on promoting investment and trade.

Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri received Ambassador of Nepal Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma for a farewell call. Foreign Secretary reaffirmed India's commitment to continue enhancing the multifaceted ties with Nepal and thanked Dr. Sharma for his contributions in this endeavour.

Hon. Minister Mr Shisir Khanal addressed a seminar organised by the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) @IFA_Nepal today on "Student Migration: Policy, Aspiration, and Global Mobility." Highlighting the roles of Nepali students abroad, the Hon. Minister emphasised the pursuit of knowledge has always been a journey beyond borders to expand perspectives and expertise. He underscored the need for a diaspora knowledge network to map the specialised skills of Nepali students and link their global insights to national development priorities. On the occasion, the Hon. Minister also highlighted Nepal's unique strengths in areas such as Climate Science, IT and Ancient Wisdom to build world-class institutions that match the ambitions of our youth. "We are not losing a generation; we are distributing one," he said, stressing the need to transform migration into a circular flow of knowledge that ensures every journey culminates in a contribution to the nation. The programme was attended by government officials, migration experts, researchers, and young diplomats of MoFA.

The Ministry organised a virtual interaction programme today with Nepali diplomatic missions based in West Asia and Africa. During the programme, Ambassadors, Consuls General and Chargés d’Affaires briefed on the prevailing situation in their respective countries, the safety and security of Nepali nationals, the status of service delivery, innovative practices adopted and the priorities of the missions. In his opening remarks, Foreign Secretary Mr Amrit Bahadur Rai underscored the importance of effective service delivery, advancing economic diplomacy in the changed context and leveraging technology to enhance efficiency. In his closing remarks, Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Mr Shisir Khanal highlighted the Government’s core priorities, including good governance and economic prosperity through strengthened economic diplomacy. He instructed the missions to align their efforts accordingly and to further enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of public service delivery through innovation and digitalisation. The programme was conducted by Joint Secretary Mr Ram Kaji Khadka, Head of the Central Asia, West Asia and Africa Division of the Ministry.

Hon. Foreign Minister Mr Shisir Khanal addressed the 9th Indian Ocean Conference in Port Louis under the theme “Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance.” He highlighted Nepal’s deep and organic link between the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean, noting that ecological interdependence from melting glaciers to rising seas demands a shared global response. Reaffirming the rights of landlocked countries under UNCLOS, he called for inclusive, rules-based governance rooted in equity, international law and shared responsibility for our global commons. He also urged greater recognition of the mountain–ocean climate nexus, including through Nepal’s Sagarmatha Sambaad platform. “What melts in the mountains eventually rises in the seas,” he said. Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Shisir Khanal, currently in Port Louis, Mauritius for the 9th Indian Ocean Conference (10–12 April 2026), held a bilateral meeting with Dr S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India. Dr Jaishankar congratulated him on assuming office. The two leaders reviewed the longstanding, multifaceted Nepal–India relationship. Both sides held constructive and forward-looking discussions on matters of mutual interest, reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

Ambassadors/Heads of Diplomatic Mission resident in Kathmandu paid a joint courtesy call on Rt. Hon. Mr Balendra Shah, Prime Minister of Nepal, at his Office in Singhadurbar today. Ambassadors/Heads of Mission of India, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, United Kingdom, Qatar, Switzerland, France, Israel, Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, China, United States of America and United Nations were present for the joint call on. The Ambassadors/Heads of Missions congratulated the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister and conveyed greetings and messages from their respective heads of state/government. They also expressed support and cooperation to the new Government in delivering results for the benefit of Nepali people. Reiterating Nepal’s balanced and pragmatic foreign policy, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of deepening relations with immediate neighbours, friendly countries and development partners based on trust, mutual respect and shared prosperity.
