“A lonely last journey for Madhav Gadgil: Not many people were there at Gadgil’s residence at Navi Peth in Pune when his body was taken for cremation on Friday. Just about 40-50 persons. No VIPs, ministers, others. Even the local MLA was not there. Malayala Manorama photo editor RS Gopan, who had expected crowds and jostling, says he thought he had lost his way. It was a funeral with state honours. But the police men who were deputed to go there lost their way. The body lay in wait for 30 minutes for them. Gopan says the Padma Bhushan awardee, the UN Champion of Earth, lay there like an orphan, clad in white. The trees stood in silence, swaying in his honour. Gadgil stood for trees. They have more gratitude than humans, says the photographer. When big trees fall they pay their last respects, without stirring a leaf, he says. The cameraman returned, with his mind and the frame full of Gadgil, after the last shot. Goodbye, Gadgil” . ( FB post by AVS NAMBUDIRI ) facebook.com/share/p/1BjBuq…

The two-penny AAP MLA, clown of Arvind Kejriwal, had the audacity to challenge Team India’s captain to donate his match fee to the Armed Forces in support of the Pahalgam terror attack victims. Our captain responded in style.

I have a hypothesis about why Indian CEOs are being selected in such large numbers by international boards. Indian CEOs are, of course, smart, talented, and capable leaders. But plenty of Americans, Brits, Israelis, Europeans, Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans are too. And it's not just about speaking English either, as some think, given immigrant Indians are chosen as being better than American or five eyes born native English speakers who are equal, or more in numbers in the western talent pool. My theory is that they're chosen because they tend to be docile and servile along with all the great qualifications and qualities of a leader. An Anglo-Saxon white, Chinese, or Israeli CEO might let their community's or birth country's interests creep in and interfere at some point. Or they will just be more brave and open about voicing their opinions and taking decisions which may affect shareholder value. For example, in the recent H1B visa fee hike case, I saw so many Whites (including Elon), Jewish and Chinese Americans (including CEOs) openly come out against it and support hi-tech immigration, even directly support Indian immigrants. Indian origin leaders, on the other hand, are a safe bet for keeping their mouths shut in silence. For instance, they haven't yet posted a single line condemning racial targeting, attacks, or killings of Indians, or speak out against H-1B visa policy changes that hurt their own community - or even their own company. Indians, especially India born ones, can just be trusted to play it safe, focusing solely on their personal and company interests. In fact, they'll bend over backwards to serve their boards, companies, and the deep state, if any, dictating. My hypothesis can be further proven by seeing that India born Indian origin leaders are picked for CEO jobs in US companies, and not many US born Indian Americans (not even close) who are as qualified with all the great credentials and just as good - if it is really the race or culture that makes good CEOs. Because, even though they are Indians with similar achievements, qualifications from top schools, and capabilities, being born and brought up in the US, they tend to have a bit more of the independent American spirit and much less of the docility and spineless, servile attitude.

India must take Trump's point over Russian oil seriously, and work with the White House to find a solution. The sooner the better. Decades of friendship and good will between the world's two largest democracies provide a solid basis to move past the current turbulence. Navigating issues like trade disagreements and Russian oil imports demands hard dialogue. But, we should not lose sight of what matters most: our shared goals. To face China, the United States must have a friend in India. W/ @bill_drexel and @HudsonInstitute More: newsweek.com/nikki-haley-tr…

You can say what you want about India, Modi does have the political courage that Europe thoroughly lacks. Imagine if Europe had done this with Russia when Trump started, like he just did with India, to go hostile on trade. Not only would they not be in the absurd situation where they need to negotiate peace with Russia via the intermediary of a hostile Trump, but they also could be rebuilding ties with Russia as leverage against American extortion. And I'm not even speaking about avoiding the pathetic spectacle of being lined up like schoolchildren before Trump's desk, or having to pay several points worth of European GDP in tribute. Now they get the worst of all worlds: public humiliation as American vassals, systematic wealth extraction by the US, a ruinous proxy war they need to pay for, and continuous hostility with their next door neighbor even when, ironically, the US is now restoring relations. In some way it's even politically harder for India to do this than it would have been for Europe vis a vis Russia: the level of animosity towards China of the Indian population is probably greater than that against Russia in Europe. Heck, European leaders would undoubtedly have been cheered by a large proportion of Europeans if they'd taken the diplomatic initiative in Ukraine instead of Trump, all the more if it was as a strategic move to resist Trump. But no, they'd rather sit in the Oval Office like obedient pupils, write $100 billion checks to American defense contractors, and continue playing vassals to a hegemon that openly despises them. Europe doesn't lack the capability for strategic autonomy - it lacks the will, the courage, and apparently, any sense of shame. If you want examples of sensible leadership in today's world, look in Asia.

Glad to meet Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Since my meeting with President Xi in Kazan last year, India-China relations have made steady progress guided by respect for each other's interests and sensitivities. I look forward to our next meeting in Tianjin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit. Stable, predictable, constructive ties between India and China will contribute significantly to regional as well as global peace and prosperity.

Indians still don’t realise that a Left-leaning government in the US or Europe benefits India far more than a Right-wing one and today's geopolitics is all the proof they need, if only they were smart enough to see it
