@TaylorRMarshall I randomly went into a Catholic Church about 7 years ago. It was reverent, orthodox, and beautiful. I immediately began RCIA and converted. If I had gone to one these “bad” churches, I would probably still be Protestant.

The Catholic Church is hierarchical. Parishes are typically killed from the top down by bad/lazy clergy. And there shall be like people like priest. (Hos 4:9) The sentiment of “Stay in a bad parish and be the healing force for good! Be the grassroots change,” is naive and will likely hurt the faith of your young children. Catholicism is a hierarchy, not the PTA.

Every Catholic knows someone who drives 30 minutes to Mass, passing three parishes along the way. Maybe you are that person. But church-hopping is killing our parishes. I get the appeal. The music, homilies, or community are better somewhere else. But when faithful Catholics scatter across a diocese chasing the perfect parish, nobody builds anything. It causes a dilution of resources. People aren’t working together because they don’t see each other. That parish you hate might need you. (more in comments)
