@nickrusso42518 @juangolbez Sometimes it is possible to defuse political “importance” arguments in QoS by focusing on fragility. Everyone wants their traffic to be import. Few want to be thought of as fragile. I learned that from @pjwelcher

@juangolbez I avoid using words like "important" or "priority" because it's too political. Give apps the treatment they require and move on. Don't quibble about bandwidth percentages beyond CAC-based apps. It turns into a pissing content, IMO.

I mostly agree, but: QoS is not abused *everywhere*, but in places with low operational maturity, a lack of skill, no technical authority (ie, committee-based decision), or a combination thereof.
Ted Turner@ted_turner_ii

@nickrusso42518 many organizations have never recognized your premise here: "it isn't a magic pill to cure chronic, sustained congestion." QOS is abused everywhere, and all applications lose when QOS is abused.

Always mixed feelings when leaving Cisco Live. Bumped into @dyarashus and @LadyNetworker and sneaking in a couple extra hugs with Denise always makes you feel better 🤗❤️

@showipintbri I prefer Mandalay Bay to reduce commute times, but sometimes opt to save a little money by staying at Luxor. Also, depending on your dates, you may not be able to get MB for the entire duration.

@nickrusso42518 Here’s where we start to differ on this, I think. Granted, technical communication is usually better served with “plain speech,” but I’d contend that there’s a place for less formal communication where colloquialisms can be better for connecting & painting pictures with words.

@dyarashus Fair, though I'd argue that if colloquialism does not improve terseness or precision (that is, at best it is on par with plain speech), one might as well use the plain speech.

I dislike the "violent" phrases not because they are violent, but because they are instances of imprecise corporate jargon. You could use unicorn or pixie dust metaphors and I'd hate them equally. Just say what you mean.
Brianna Wu@BriannaWu

Just wanted to add my voice to those saying this is ridiculous. I highly doubt there is any link between saying, "What's the deadline?" and real world violence. This is about someone's unhealthy need to control the world around them, dressed up as a social cause.

@nickrusso42518 Knowing what’s appropriate for your target audience is key to effective communication, but I would disagree that use of a colloquialism is effectively a coded message. It’s an assumption of a particular type of literacy in your target audience, and that may or may not be correct

@dyarashus That is the main argument against them, and mine is an extension of that, I think. In general, non-euphemistic/colloquial speech tends to be clearer and unambiguous speech. I personally try to avoid coded messages, even commonly known ones.

Small win, my hands don’t go numb when I do a doorway stretch anymore. I almost certainly have bilateral thoracic outlet syndrome and I have been treating myself as such. Appears correct.

@nickrusso42518 Sorry it didn’t go the way you had hoped, but being up front about a change of plans is still honorable.

I often promote honoring your word and finishing what you start. On one topic, regrettably, I've done neither. A few months ago, I announced a new consulting practice. After speaking with my attorney and my company's ethics team, I've determined it's just not feasible right now.

@showipintbri Waking early, staying up late, or getting it during work-related travel when I was generally already alone. Sometimes it was as simple as sitting in my car in a parking garage for a while before going in to see a client.

@mattouellette Just because others may treat you like crap sometimes doesn’t mean you deserve it. If you’ve tried and you can’t heal some of the relationships you care about, it may be time to find new people to care about. You’ve got people who care about you.

We had a terrific NetCraftsmen team dinner tonight to wrap up #CLUS at the Bardot Brasserie in the Aria. Thank you to the whole @CiscoLive team, and especially the #CiscoChampion bunch!
