It is grossly unacceptable that it has taken the brave and determined, independent efforts of a family and the Katie Trust, as well as a BBC Spotlight investigation, to show that the violent death of a young woman from County Armagh would have been recorded as merely misadventure or a tragic accident by An Garda Síochána, had it not been for those very efforts. A public apology and full investigation should follow to explain how two pathologists could possibly have missed 93 injuries on the body of a young woman and conclude "drowning" or "hypothermia", and address numerous other concerns regarding the preservation of the crime scene and the securing of relevant CCTV footage. An independent report was commissioned by the Katie Trust, a charity run by retired PSNI Detective Sergeant James Brannigan, when contacted by Kelly Lynch's family for help, resulting in a finding that Kelly died by Homicide due to a “violent physical assault”. The pathologist also found she suffered 93 injuries to her body including 2 which were inflicted after her death. Kelly Lynch’s body was found in the Ulster Canal near Mullaghmatt in Monaghan Town on St Patrick’s Day 2024. Her family were led to believe that she wandered off and fell off a bridge into the canal. No stone should be left unturned until the whole truth is uncovered. #JusticeForKellyLynch
