Biggest takeaway from reading/listening to more from the group is that working on hard problems with smart people doesn’t just challenge your thinking, it forces you to operate in complexity and thus communicate complexity clearly. Goes against what most would expect of a group called the “Math Mafia”

Optimize for being able to judge great solutions from correct ones. Correctness has become the baseline.

There’s danger in making choices that over-index on the macro environment when your actual experience is mostly shaped by the micro: Your neighborhood will affect your daily life more than your city. Your team will affect your daily life more than your company. Your program will matter more than your school. Can't miss the trees for the forest sometimes.

I love events like the World Cup that brings everyone back into a pocket of monoculture. With media so splintered these days, it’s so refreshing to be sharing in an experience with many millions of others around the world.

Oh the number of human lifetimes we’ve lost to cities that made cars the only first-class mode of transport

Claude should give constant reminders throughout the day that ask you to step back and think about whether the problem you’re solving or the constraints you’ve set should be questioned. So many wasted tokens are spent climbing the wrong hills.

“don’t just do something, stand there” applies to many things for me but especially so to enjoying a 4th of July weekend in sf

I’ve found that there’s this sweet spot of sleep deprivation where you achieve a kind of lucidity that makes everything feel so easy. I always end up paying for it as the day goes on but I also always make breakthroughs on problems I’ve been mulling on when in that state.

Data retention of fable 5 is gonna block a lot of institutional adoption in the short-term. Wonder if OpenAI just launches Sol without it to counterposition or whether regulation is driving this.

A lot of engineering is looking at a problem, acknowledging that the set of correct solutions is vast and then trying to pick a direction that optimizes some function of performance, elegance, reliability etc. With the cost of iteration going down so much, it feels like knowing what direction to pick is still important but picking constraints and being able to build environments for agents to search over the solution space will be more so.

Forcing myself to constantly ask "can my agent do this?" throughout the work day and finding that it can makes me feel like removing myself is the /goal that I'm looping towards
David Senra@davidsenra

.@ScottWu46 says because of AI future generations won't even recognize today's jobs as "work":  ”If you think about our ancestors from hundreds or thousands of years ago, imagine them looking at us and what we do.” “You're pushing buttons. You're sitting in a room and talking with other people, and you call that a meeting?” “ What do you mean that's work? I'm in the fields. I'm doing this every day. I’m farming, I'm making all of our clothes by hand.” “ I think what we’ll have going forward is going to look that different from what we have today.”

The Ferrari Luce saga continues to puzzle me. We've now seen a CMO departure, harsh criticism from Montezemolo (who architected the modern vision of the company) and loud public backlash accompany the announcement that what was supposed to be the unveiling of a new era of Ferrari. It feels odd that such a carefully crafted brand wouldn't be able to anticipate this reaction to a design shift that feels so much like the neutering of the Jaguar logo.
