@dynamic_menace

We are firmly convinced that we are invincible, because the spirit of mankind will not be broken by the imperialist slaughter. Mankind will vanquish it.

@SIFIouthere @Zer0reflect It's not even like there's some cosmic villain they have to stop by teaming up, she's just in New York to talk to the F4 about controlling her powers that she got (which a significant portion of the issue is a flashback to) and Spider-Man happens to run into her and get involved

@JoeLongBalls Wonder if there were any “yacht” guys back then, just sitting around on the deck of their ship off the coast of the Republic of Pirates all day, drinking rum and listening to whatever the sea shanty equivalents of the Doobie Brothers or Steely Dan were

@janesmitish Ironically the whole look is kind of a happy accident. The director got sent a box of Punisher comics by Marvel but they were all cheap copies so the color scheme is based off those prints, where there's only like 3 main colors at any given time, rather than the actual comics

@FitMarshmellow Has there ever been a story where he and Grodd meet because I feel like the fact that he’s a guy in an ape body would be a sore spot between them

@Wizardking42 @JoeLongBalls You can find product catalogs in RE9 where they’re selling Tyrants for like 100 million or the zombie dogs for 30 million (although those catalogs are from another bioweapon selling organization, not Umbrella but same vibe)

Found this gem while reading up on the firearms in Requiem on imfdb, gave me a good chuckle: “Throwing the speedloader away instead of retaining it, as expected of the man who drove a $200,000 Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT to the post-apocalyptic Raccoon City and then left it there.”

@indianloonie Ready to Rumble is a weird one because WCW was already in decline by 2000 and it was more negatively impacted by the promotion for the movie (Giving Arquette the world title) than the movie actually flopping critically or financially

@ratvisionist There was a novel from 1888 called Looking Backward where a socialist society in the year 2000 has everyone receives credits as part of a universal basic income. Credits were also used by Asimov so that's probably where most writers got it from though.

@zweiwalker89607 Always heard that 'Palpatine knew about the Vong' thing and assumed it was from some book I'd never read and that it was a "I was already gonna have the huge military and superweapons anyway, being able to turn them around on some aliens in twenty years is just a bonus" situation

@LongArmsPerk Feels kind of similar to the Remans from Star Trek Nemesis. A race of telepathic gargoyle-vampires that were these super tough shock troops in a big galactic war next to a 1960s sci-fi allegory for the Chinese whose most distinctive physical traits are bad haircuts and elf ears

@Boppedoff @JucheAffirmer It’s a historical flag, originally used as a maritime flag from the time of Peter the Great before it became the national flag of the Russian Empire in the late 1800s. It was used by the Provisional Government as well.

I do think a lot of the great European wars (30 years, austrian succession, 7 years, napoleonic wars) qualify as much as WW1

@ThatchEffendi Reminds me how, prior to the Great Northern War, Peter the Great and Augustus II the Strong of Poland-Lithuania held meetings about a potential anti-Swedish alliance between what the histories describe as "colossal drinking bouts"

@VeraCausa9 Funny to think that in Ireland around the same time (at least within the same century, possibly closer) an Irish monk was also writing about his cat:
