@Tamilkarthik75 @UpdatesChennai Any project this size will have significant environment impacts needing mitigation and unfortunately displace people. Pannur actually had more affected families than Parandur. And TN has nearly 12 million acres under cultivation, a few thousand acres won't impact the food supply.

Chennai’s second airport at Parandur hinges on the new TVK Government’s stand. Industry representatives say scrapping the project will be a huge setback to the city & state which has lost out to Bengaluru & Hyderabad recently... #Parandur #Vijay ✈️ share.google/i6OdwGGM7Je444…

@dyneshv @dstock_insights Oh good to know you worked with MTC 👍. There is definitely a plan as was told to me by a e-depot official. Let's see.

@titoraja @dstock_insights Yeah LTO+panto has high costs but flipside is the need for fewer chargers and charging quickly more often. They can definitely work in some cases. Not sure about China as a whole, but HK has them. I do remember Gadkari promoting it. We never got much enthusiasm from OEMs tho.

@dyneshv @dstock_insights Yup, Panto chargers are the norm these days in China and quickly catching up in Europe as well right. Will be particularly useful for long distance moffusil buses if and when that tech comes to India. Rem Nitin Gadkari talking abt it a yr or so back, so 🤞

@titoraja @dstock_insights Olectra was already using a 360 kWh battery in Hyderabad (I think, though I'm not sure?) which they claimed was comfortably achieving 250 km on a single charge so could do more with a nominal op charge. BYD is definitely doing a lot of good work on battery tech.

@dyneshv @dstock_insights Latest version of Blade Battery technology offered by BYD has factory range of 420km+, should come to real world range of 300 to 320kms I would think, but not sure if Olectra is going to bring that to India.

@titoraja @dstock_insights A related point is that this is where LTO + panto chargers would be versatile, because the panto at a terminus can charge the bus in 10 mins during the turnaround. They're also arguably safer than plug in chargers for the public (who won't be at depots but will at termini).

@titoraja @dstock_insights Would be a welcome step though from my own experience (on a parallel project) MTC wasn't keen to install op chargers at termini, particularly at places like CMBT, Anna Square, and Kelambakkam that they did not own. I'd hope their practical experience is now changing their minds.

@cvkrishnan Though not unfair to also say Sriperumbudur airport struggled to take off during that term? Prelim report was in Sep 2011 I think.

@UpdatesChennai @CMOTamilnadu Higher social mobility thru higher paying jobs needs more service sector growth which needs an intl hub (not the only need but a critical need regardless). People trying to compare the benefits with the impact of reducing a small land area from food supply are missing the point.

Airport today is an investment magnet. From attracting niche aerospace investments to high paying GCC jobs. It's not about flying alone today CM Vijay Sir. Bengaluru airport contributes 6% to Bengaluru's GDP. Plz reconsider @CMOTamilnadu 🙏

@titoraja @dstock_insights Battery tech has improved a lot but obviously ground weather conditions also impact it. There are other battery options - LTO batteries let you have smaller batteries that charge in 10 minutes but they're expensive and not offered by almost any OEM in India.

@titoraja @dstock_insights One possibility is operators opted for smaller capacity batteries in the hope they could charge longer during the day. The other is that efficiency is less than ideal needing more or longer top-ups. The latter usually has a penalty cos MTC won't bear excess electricity costs.

@titoraja @dstock_insights Doesn't surprise me. E-bus tenders typically include penalties for failing to hit the range so that behaviour makes sense. MTC should be able to verify from the AVLS data. One thing that does surprise me is 2 hrs charging time? If that's mid day opportunity charging that's high.

@dyneshv @dstock_insights Good . But I also see e-buses are struggling to complete their stipulated 200km on time ( 2 hrs charging downtime), resulting in them running 1 or even 2 singles after 10.30-11 pm, which leads to revenue loss. Some even take alternate routes at night to finish 200kms quickly.

@titoraja @dstock_insights Yeah pretty much. Buses almost always leave the depots on time. But once they get to the termini to start, congestion just throws the schedule out of the window. Timekeepers enter random times because MTC did not measure punctuality tho the ebus GCC contracts now have KPIs.

@dyneshv @dstock_insights Yes, I do believe they start on schedule everyday, both am & pm trips, but a little traffic along the way, and the entire schedule goes for a toss. From then on, it's just random, with the aim to complete their requisite singles/day as early as possible, which leads to bunching.

@reclaimchennai The same category offence as driving on the footpath. A failure to be patient and to instead feel entitled to take over a right of way that doesn't belong to them. These drivers are the worst.

🙏 Ayya saammy ! Atlast no need to die every other week chugging the luggage or waiting for their buggy ! Btw unbelievable that people are bringing AAI's utopian dream of mid field terminal and OTA LA expansion at #MAA as a counter idea for #Parandur ! This #AAI who is executing a cab pickup point for 20+ months !😏

Five months since the facility got ready and after multiple missed deadlines, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has now decided to open the cab pick-up point at the Chennai airport in June...🙏 P.C : @THChennai

@Gishnuk @Srinivas_091294 And why do you think innovative options aren't considered? Planning an airport is a minimum 5 to 7 year job and not something plucked out of thin air. An airport in the sea has enormous challenges. HSR/RRTS with check in at the city terminus gets you quickly to Parandur.

@Gishnuk @Srinivas_091294 It is true this time. BLR is already becoming a hub and without Parandur, MAA will continue to see services drop thx to AAI. It's unarguable that greenfield airports contributed to higher service sector growth in BLR and HYD leading to better wage growth which TN should aim for.

Bro, #MAA choking at 35M while demand explodes. #Parandur is 100M capacity Flights aren't busses, 45-90 min transfers are normal worldwide. Metro's coming. Airports create growth, not wait for it. I'll recommend your name as airport name if you can find 5k acres in #Chennai.🙃

@Gishnuk @Srinivas_091294 This is absurd frankly. You can't solve a difficult problem today by postponing it and making it more difficult to solve in the future! Ideally we should have built a runway+terminal across the river but didn't. Then GoTN let the Sriperumbudur option die. This is our last chance.

@dyneshv @Srinivas_091294 Exactly the airport requirements will be ever growing one. Even in Parandur land acquisition is proving to be difficult. With Madhuravoyal expected to be a choke point in future, Airport infrastructure should be able to grow and at the same time connectivity shd also grow.

@Gishnuk @Srinivas_091294 Again pointing out Parandur will have a HSR station which means it will be ~30 mins from the city centre. Plus the Vellore RRTS line may be aligned through the airport too. Even if only one of them is built it will pretty much solve the problem you think no one is thinking about.

@Srinivas_091294 Lol and why is it dog shit? You are the one talking about metro, I am the one saying Metro is not enough. Why don't you sit this one out if you don't have the answer to connecting main Chennai with the Parandur airport.

Your plan of separating #MAA cargo and moving it to #Parandur is DOGSHIT thinking which doesn't even deserve a response. You got no idea what you're talking about. You think 100M people travel by metro daily. Bro, just sit this one out and don't spam.👍 Patience runs out.🙂
Gishnu Kumar@Gishnuk

@arjunlv @Srinivas_091294 As you pointed out does Bangalore Metro have connectivity to their Airport. And I don't think any Chennai metro provides that option. BTW I did propose an alternative solution which is feasible and a win win from any direction why aren't we discussing the same?
