@DailyMail What's being happy got anything to do with it? There's a much deeper point that the Daily Mail seems to have completely missed; things like meaning, purpose, legacy, and long-term fulfilment.

This isn’t “confusion” — it’s normalising our language in our own national parliament. Every child in Wales learns some Welsh at school, so these names aren’t too hard for anyone. Welsh has equal official status, and seeing it used confidently helps keep the language alive and visible.

They chose Welsh-only names to help Plaid, whose supporters are far more likely to speak Welsh. Those who don’t speak it will be confused. He’s right not to play along.

@meirionj This simply isn't true. Both Welsh and English are official languages in Wales. Welsh and English are core subjects in school. Yes, we have Welsh place names, not sure why this is difficult.

To Plaid Cymru supporters… If a person cannot speak, write or read a language, to that person the language is FOREIGN. The vast majority of Welsh cannot speak, write or read Welsh. By definition, to the vast majority of Wales, Welsh must be a FOREIGN language. Q.E.D.

@SeneddWaste To add context, the figure stems from a 2023 Welsh Government report estimating £2.7-8.9 billion in lost productivity over 30 years from slower urban travel, a range opposition MSs in 2026 Senedd debates have cited as £9 billion to attack the policy.

This is really useful, but i don't believe we are thinking from first principles here at all. Why are we spending that money in the first place? Wales' territorial greenhouse gas emissions are small in a global context, less than 0.1% of global emissions, while the UK as a whole contributes roughly 1%. Shouldn't this money be better spent elsewhere given the current financial situation Wales is in. 270k per annum may seem small, but when you see this from a 5 or 10 year context it's a significant amount of money. The next question is, where else is tax payer money being wasted? I'm sure we can find more than 270k per year of savings. E.g. a 2023 Senedd report highlighted that poor account management led to a £155.5 million loss of potential funding for public services. This paints a picture of a government that does not value tax payers money and how it's spent.

Let's talk about "gender neutral tree planting in Uganda".... Certain politicians in Wales are very angry that the Welsh Government is spending taxpayers money planting trees in Uganda. The Welsh Tories and Reform say they will cancel the project to put the money back in to the Welsh NHS. While it is totally legitimate scrutinise whether public money is being spent appropriately, the idea that cancelling the project will make any difference to NHS in Wales is just untrue. Ahead of an election we need to be talking about facts, not social media noise. The Welsh Gov spends about £270k a year on the project. That is 0.001% of the budget. The Welsh Tories have also said this is "gender neutral tree planting". Let's look at the real facts here:
