Public health interventions must be behaviourally and contextually tailored, targeting resources where motivation and ability align strongly. Pharmacies and PPMVs in underserved areas should be empowered and trained as hybrid gateways, bridging offline counselling with digital access and follow-up. — Dr Mohammed Alhaji, Engagement Director of Busara @BusaraCenter

Society for Family Health (SFH) Nigeria joined thousands of delegates from over 120 countries at the 7th International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP 2025), taking place from 3rd to 6th November at the Ágora Convention Centre in Bogotá, Colombia. Themed “Equity Through Action: Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights for All,” the conference brings together global changemakers committed to advancing equitable access to family planning and strengthening health systems worldwide. Representing Nigeria’s strong voice in reproductive health, SFH and its digital health subsidiary, SFH ACCESS, showcased innovations, research, and impact stories from across its family planning and SRHR programmes. Through multiple oral, poster, and flash presentations, SFH shared evidence-based approaches that expand access to modern contraception, engage communities, and promote behaviour change across Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. SFH MD Dr Omokhudu Idogho highlighted in a meeting with the SFH delegation that only about 10 percent of past FP budgets globally have gone directly into product provision, with the remaining 90 percent absorbed by overheads. He reiterated SFH’s commitment to creating more efficient and sustainable systems that ensure people and patients remain at the heart of every intervention. Highlights included Emmanuella Nwanua, ACA, FMVA®’s presentation on faith-based perspectives toward family planning, underscoring how trusted religious settings can influence positive health outcomes. Dr Anthony Nwala and Oluwabusola Oni shared insights on interpersonal communication and the impact of trusted community voices on contraceptive uptake, while Jennifer Adebambo presented findings on engaging male partners as allies in the use of self-injectable contraceptives and on user feedback mechanisms for sustainable scale-up. Jannie Zibiri-Esakome presented data showing steady increases in hormonal IUD uptake in Nigeria and Kenya. Other SFH presentations highlighted innovations in private sector engagement, adolescent health, and digital access to family planning. These included studies on referral systems between public and private providers, demand generation for self-injection in Ogun State, IUD inserter use, contraceptive switching in e-pharmacy services, and holistic approaches empowering adolescent girls and mothers to overcome barriers to reproductive health access. Throughout the conference, the SFH team has been actively engaging with global partners, researchers, and policymakers to share insights, strengthen collaboration, and foster sustainable partnerships that drive equitable family planning access to the last mile. Visitors at SFH’s exhibition booth (#66, 3rd Floor, Ágora Centre) are experiencing firsthand the organisation’s innovations in social marketing, digital health, and private sector engagement—reflecting SFH’s 40-year legacy of delivering health solutions that transform lives. #ICFP2025 #Conference
