One of my acting mentors, Charlie Holiday, passed away a while back. But he gave a talk a few months prior that I attended.
“If you wanna be an actor, you gotta have something wrong with you. Because you have to hear NO over and over and still keep auditioning as if you’re eventually gonna get it.”
That has been engrained in my psyche. It’s only delusional when it’s not working. Watch jaws drop as soon as it does.

Always wanted to voice act in anime. Haven't been cast in one yet. "Fine. I'll do it myself."

Hey beans.
I’ve been feeling extremely burnt out lately. Its like I have no desire to put in the effort required to make content creation work. I think last stream was an eye opener for me. The amount of social energy it takes for me to be a consistently entertaining streamer is exhausting. I’ve felt myself literally dreading hitting the “go live” button, wishing I could do anything else instead.
On top of that, I haven’t landed a single audition for years and I just don’t want to be in a place where I feel like I’m not wanted.
After thinking about it a lot, I’m not sure if I can make voice acting content, or any other type of content for that matter. I feel like I’m selling my soul for the sake of views. It’s been fun, but I think the fun has run dry.
I’m probably not gonna be active in this server until further notice, but I will always appreciate the memories that we made together.
I hope that makes sense.

I just want to say that I could not be luckier or more grateful than I am at this moment. I was going through an emotional crisis of sorts, and the outpouring of kindness I received was more than I could have ever imagined. All this time, I thought what I bring to the world was measured by its recognition. I was wrong; it's the impact it has on those who see it that matters most. It was that I should've thought about all along. I hope I've made a positive impact on all of you, because in one night you've made me realize how fortunate I am. I will continue making content, voice acting primarily, with occasional edits, for as long as they make people laugh. Thank you, everyone❤️

I've been voice acting for years and I've noticed other voice actors making 8 choices in their D.I.Y. demos that, in my opinion, are not great.
Let me be clear, you should invest in a pro demo before submitting to agents and studios, BUT not everybody is ready for that, and there is still a huge market to tap into before going pro. I made $10k on Fiverr with my own self made demo before upgrading, and if you're gonna make one too, I advise you to avoid these things.
1. Scenes longer than 8 seconds.
When potential clients are picking who to hire, they often have to sort through dozens if not hundreds of demos. Don't waste their time by doing the same voice for 15 seconds straight. Keep the pacing fast.
2. Slating your name and thanking them for listening.
Same as before. You're not the only demo. Get to the point quickly. Your name will be plastered everywhere anyway.
3. Doing "voices" instead of playing characters.
I was guilty of this as well.
"British" is not a character.
"Monster" is not a character.
A scrawny British monster in a dark tunnel, deciding whether he should desert his comrades to save his skin, or fight for the greater good, all while dying of a disease? THAT's a character.
Don't just put on an accent and play a stereotype. Put multiple ingredients together and make someone unique.
4. Corny dialogue
"Dialogue is like toilet paper. You don't want any that's already been used." - William C. Martell
Avoid the cliches. I’ve heard stuff like...
"We've got company."
"All fun and games until someone gets hurt."
"We're not so different, you and I."
"You fools..."
"You and what army?"
"Prepare to meet your end, Dragon!"
If you're stuck on a generic line, find a new way to say the same thing. Let your creative juices flow with this. It's the difference between:
"I love you and I will never leave your side."
And...
"I am the dirt under your nails, cupcake. Nothing's gonna clean me out."
(Yes, I love Arcane.)
Same goes for characters with accents. If I hear one more "Lovely day for a cup of tea innit?" or "G'day mate!" I'll just do a full body wax because that'll be less painful.
5. They don't get sad
And if they do get sad, they try to be cool about it. Lose your cool. Get vulnerable. Cry. Show your range of emotions.
Even the badass tough guys cry. Vegeta cries, Sasuke cries, and All Might cries. Break down that wall.
6. Screaming in lower case.
Fake screaming. The type of screaming where it's airy and quiet because you don't want to bother anyone. If you live with other people, just let them know. "If you hear screaming, I'm not dying. I'm just recording something and it'll only be for a few minutes." Hopefully they'll understand.
7. Doing impressions of popular characters.
You're trying to be your own character. Not somebody else's. Unless you're auditioning for Shaggy in Scooby-Doo, you don't need it.
8. Basic sound design
Don't just use background music and nothing else.
Ask yourself: Is your character walking or running? Is the ground concrete or wood? Are they wearing clothes or armor? Is the environment wide open or small and tight?
These all affect the sound effects you should hear.
Treat it like TV with your eyes closed. Immerse your listener as if it were a real project.
Anyway,
If you like voice acting content, follow for more. Or don't. I'm not the boss of you.
