The first Panjabi poet to use the term "Panjabi" for the Panjabi language was the poet Hafiz Barkhurdar who belonged to the Ranjha Jatt tribe. He hailed from Takht Hazara in West Panjab. His works include the singing of Mirza and Sahiban and that of Yusuf and Zulaikha.

the romances of indian soil as those of Heer & Ranjha" "It is a significant fact that Urdu is slavishly imitative so much so that the Mongoloid vice of catamites (male sweethearts) has been shamelessly glorified in Urdu literature." Panjabi is more organic and preserves archaisms

The Jat films are interesting because they eclipsed Urdu as the primary language of Pakistani cinema, Punjab rather than Pak. Characters refer to Punjab (not Pak) being very big, "all of Punjab". The central hero invokes identities native to Punjab, primarily Jats & Gujjars.

Maula Jat showcases a strong Punjabi masculinity, he fights in hand-to-hand combat, using a traditional agricultural implement (ganḍāsā). He combats evil, displays physical strength, pulling a heavily loaded oxcart out of a bog, so all can see he is stronger than an ox.

Where does the name Pothohar come from? Pothohar is the northern plateau region between the rivers Sindh (Indus) and Jhelum. Its most likely etymology is from Sanskrit *pr̥ṣṭhadhāra meaning "plateau" derived from pr̥ṣṭhá "back" and dhā́rā "ridge".

There’s a ridiculous claim going around that the Jats of Mirpur “aren’t real Jats”. Let’s be clear: this is nothing but anti-Mirpuri propaganda by people with shaky knowledge of their own history. A thread: 🧵

@awaishussain782 Mirpur also maintains a rigid Jatt-Rajput distinction just like Majha, in contrast to regions like Baar, where this divide is less pronounced, though it's worth noting the 'Rajputs' in Baar are not genuine and it's more of an adopted identity there.

In Sanskrit, the future tense affix was -s-. This only got inherited in the Lehndi dialects (such as Pothwari, Hindko, Jatki etc) the rest of Punjabi dropped it. Lehndi "karsaaN/karesaaN" is closer to Sanskrit than the Charhdi "karanga".

In South Panjab the Derewal people used to tease the Multanis by asking them to recite "Chiri pharki, ghori larki, larakda larakda ghori khare te maen charhan" pronouncing the succesion of 'r's was a stumbling block for Multanis.

@FlawlessExpreso All four of those words you listed are tatsamas. Hindi has its own base with its own tadbhavas, it has borrowed from Panjabi and other NIA languages but the words it borrowed are not considered Hindi tadbhavas

@e_munti Not all of them. Besides is natural evolution the only indicator for a language's "closeness" in your view? Hindi is a superset of several northern prakrits so it can claim their tadbhaavs for their own, which I am certain, although to less extent is also true with punjabi.

Even though the regions of the Indus transitioned to Islam early on, the vocabulary of Panjabi—especially Western Panjabi—still preserves tadbhavas that align more closely with Sanskrit than those in more eastern languages like Hindi. - The Sanskrit word for "bird" is pakṣín; in Panjabi, it's pakkhi (compare with Parinda or Panchi in Hindi) - Sanskrit gácchati ("go") becomes gacch in Panjabi (compare with jaana in Hindi) - putrá is puttar in Panjabi (compare with beta/poot in Hindi) - khaṇḍaka ("sword") is khanda in Panjabi - rakta becomes ratt in Panjabi which means "blood", while Hindi uses Khoon - "lion" in Sanskrit, siṁhá, becomes sheenh in Panjabi The list goes on.

@e_munti 'पक्षी' aka paksi exists in hindi. 'रक्त' aka rakt exists in hindi. 'पुत्र' aka putr exists in hindi. 'खड्ग' aka khadg exists in hindi. I do not take Hindi to be synonymous with urdu here. What you have considered seems to be 'Khari Boli', where spoken urdu converges aswell.
