@HeajerKaroui The Israel border is 300 yards from the fence on the Gaza side, and when the Arabs of Gaza reach the fence they have already crossed the Israeli border. Israel left the settlements in Gaza because of multiple reasons, mostly a yearly death toll when we were there.

@e_soreq Don't skip over facts like right before israel left, built the fence on Palestinian grounds illegally against/despite international law+ 2007 imposing a blockade on gaza. Hamas is in charge there, and i suppose Israel left, so just let them eat each other alive? It's their problem

@HeajerKaroui Israel is far from that - it isn't a religious state - there are religious parts - but we consider them the extreme (around 20% of Israeli Jews are orthodox with varying degrees), and I think 80% Of Israeli Arabs (around 18% of the population) are orthodox Muslim.

@e_soreq To be fair that's kinda what happens when a whole state or ideals of it or its constitution are built on religion, never been a good idea, never will be ^^

@HeajerKaroui And this is not me generalising over Palestinians living in Israel - my country is filled with racism and ultra-right wings that are as bad as the Hamas. And I would prefer to put both radicals on an island to murder each other. I just wish for the liberal side to face reality

@e_soreq I just don't think it's a fair thing to generalize over Palestinians living in Israel currently saying that they're under better protection under Israel than not, I don't think it's an argument to make for the occupation.

@HeajerKaroui While both terrorists and freedom fighters resort to violence and justify their actions regarding ideological arguments, terrorists differ in targeting innocent victims -- a violation of human rights and a form of oppression in which freedom fighters would not engage.

@e_soreq The definition of a freedom fighter isn't murdering children, but of course you can reduce it to that if you wish in order to justify Israel's massacres (this isn't the only one anyway). There is a long history of Israel's oppression you're deciding to ignore imo

@HeajerKaroui Nationalism is, at best, 250 years old. The Palestinian nation didn't really exist before the declaration of Israel's independence in 1948. If you want to be generous, you can use the Balfour Declaration as a driving force to form the Palestinian nation.

@e_soreq Judaism is the oldest Abrahamic religion, it automatically makes Jewish families those who lived in X the longest. Just have a go at Egypt too with that logic

@HeajerKaroui You never visited Gaza or any fundamentalistic region - right? Therefore, I assume out of respect that you are laughing out of ignorance. As a father to a proud Lesbian daughter, any regime that outlaws LGBTQ by death is no laughing matter.

@e_soreq Oh is that right? 😅 is this them resisting the re-establishment of a Palestinian state because.. they are scared of being killed by their gov? Not sure I follow where this is coming from?

@HeajerKaroui And you are ignoring a long history of Arab and mainly Palestinian atrocities (not always directed towards Jews) that always occur next to or after some peace initiative.

Dear international friends. If you care about humans (e.g. Palestinians & Israelis and others) don't support Hamas. As a person who actually lives here and has taken action and risks to make peace between our peoples, it pains me to see people supporting terrorists and not peace.

@HeajerKaroui BTW, This led to a Jewish exodus from the Muslim world of around 900,000 Jews from Muslim-majority countries In most cases they were not allowed to take anything other than their clothes. The majority of them settled in Israel.

@HeajerKaroui The only reason the plan was rejected was that the Arab nations surrounding Israel convinced the Palestinians that they would butcher the Jewish settlement. They could return to their lands afterwards. Unfortunately, we won the war.

@HeajerKaroui What history? The land was occupied by the Ottoman Empire (I should know as my great great grandparents immigrated to Israel with an Ottoman visa in 1901). The land was conquered during WW1 (The ottoman lost).

@HeajerKaroui Important detail: no sane person will fire a missile from the parking lot of a children's hospital. Furthermore, as far as I am aware, in Israel, there are three political parties for Israeli Palestinians an Islamic one, a liberal one and a communist one.

@e_soreq (important detail, *back*), their children are being killed, thousands of their people are jailed without trials or charges, curtailing any Palestinian civic and political expression, which ofc would be systematically translated to terrorism.

@HeajerKaroui Furthermore, would you invite to your home someone who declares in his writings (and has just proven in acts) that his sole purpose is to murder you?

@HeajerKaroui Have you ever heard of Gandhi? His was a way of true peace, and he managed to defeat the largest empire at the time. I have been fighting for peace and a two-state solution my entire life. But the right to return that is demanded is to return to places that don't exist anymore

@HeajerKaroui The only possible solution is 2-states for two nations. However, I am not sure the Palestinians living in Israel will be willing to move to a Palestinian state (at least anyone not holding Strict Islamic views) for fear of death.

@e_soreq I understand you are, at least in theory, pro 2-state solution, but the sentiment I got is that you don't entirely understand the built-up anger & resentment in Palestine. Where do you draw the line w/ illegal annexation?

@e_soreq @PennyHaberfield @rafaelshimunov @JoeBiden "continuous Jewish settlements"! 🫣man there are photos, documents, buildings and whole history of wars and events in that land and this is the best you came up with?.so in the middle ages the Crusaders invaded "Jewish settlements" 🤣🤣🤣 and what's the Balfour Declaration?

I guess no one provided @JoeBiden with the map of Arab and Muslim Americans overlayed on the swing states he needs to win and we should all be ready for President Trump. Killing your voters families with their own tax money doesn't seem like good reelection strategy.

@HeajerKaroui Again, I am for a two-state solution, under 242 UN resolution with the needed amendments to present from both sides. However, if one side's definition of being a freedom fighter is murdering children then I am not sure I have a side to do peace with!

@e_soreq But it is extremely difficult to see how the occupation and settlements, especially those since 1967, and those since 1993, and again since 2014, do not constitute ethnic cleansing. If u fail to see how Palestinians are being robbed of their land and livelihood and rights, too bad

@e_soreq Genocide can be one of the means of ethnic cleansing (though not the only one). Are there some in Israel (including some in power) who wish for genocide of the Palestinians? Sure, though it is a minority position.
