In Norwegian folklore, nisser are small creatures that usually live at the farmstead and help the farmers with their work. Nisser are depicted as little old men with long beards, but even though they are small, they are much stronger than humans. They are fierce protectors of animals, both wild and domesticated, and folklore says that nisser are able to talk with animals and understand animal speech.
