STW14 Here the immerse, investigate, coalesce and take public strategy resonated most strongly with me. Children have to be internally motivated to learn more on a topic, so to encourage literacy and introduce new fundamentals of writing is a brilliant way to aid student learning

Because the best way to master a subject is to teach it to someone else.

STW13 A quote from this chapter reminded me of some of topics we covered in 301/2 that a great check for understanding is having students explain the content to each other. I had isolated this idea to math, but it can easily be used in the world of literacy. #331 @ktkelly14

The quote is from Ritchhart on cultivating student thinking by encouraging attitudes of curiosity, mindfulness, and inquiry.

This gives students a platform to base sequential events from, and ties in historical content!

CTW10 I had always considered time lines to be a graphic found in S. Studies textbooks, so using a timeline in literacy was a foreign concept to me. I love the cross-curriculum usage of the timeline to serve as a base of information to build sequential text from. #331 @ktkelly14

I found the “Teaching Vocabulary with Real Things” section of this chapter to be the most useful!

CTW6 Still thinking about the concept of ending students home to find new vocab. This approach lets students explore in their environment, lets them learn about the vocab of their life, and allows them to bring a part of their life into the classroom. @ktkelly14 #331

I am trying to discover books that feature diverse family structures while the focus of the book is not completely on that family system in order to "normalize" these different families. Suggestions are welcomed and treasured! #preservicelit

I love that you mention "coming to the carpet" since I also see the carpet as an equal space to connect with your class and inspire your students with your own love of reading!
