Students are currently walking along their respective evacuation routes in Puyallup. If you live near one of the routes, make sure to wave and show support for these kids. A reminder to our morning commuters to please drive carefully in Puyallup, Sumner, Orting, and other areas of East Pierce County while this drill is taking place. RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE – LAKE TAPPS At 11:20 a.m. today, crews were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the Lake Tapps area. Upon arrival, crews found fire involving the home and worked quickly to contain the flames and stop the fire from spreading further. No injuries were reported. Crews have since cleared the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the East Pierce Fire Marshal’s Office. Thank you to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue for assisting.

At 8:13 a.m. this morning, crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the Prairie Ridge area. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke coming from the back of the home and quickly located and extinguished the fire. One occupant was safely evacuated. No injuries were reported. Crews have since cleared the scene. Thank you to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue for the assistance. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office.

GAS LEAK – MILTON EPFR units, Milton PD and PSE are on scene of a natural gas leak in Milton at the intersection of 23rd Ave and Milton Way. A 2” gas line was struck during construction work. Crews have shut down the road and evacuated homes within 330 feet in all directions. PSE is actively working to shut down and repair the line. Crews remain on scene. Please avoid the area, expect delays, and if you smell gas, leave immediately and call 911.

🚨 Commercial Structure Fire – Milton 🚨 At 8:02 a.m. this morning, crews were dispatched to a commercial structure fire in Milton. Upon arrival, firefighters found the exterior business sign on the front of the building on fire. Crews quickly extinguished the flames and prevented the fire from extending into the structure. All occupants were safely evacuated from the building. There were no injuries. Crews have cleared the scene and turned the incident over to the Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Good morning, Sumner! All rivers are high so far but mostly not flooding. The Puyallup River is projected to crest at 10 am but at a level similar to yesterday. We’re waiting for an update from the Corps about releases into the White River. That’s coming also at 10 am today. It’s been raining steadily with lots of standing water on roadways. Update for Sumner's north end along the White River: we expect possible flood impacts after 5 am on 12/11/2025. Homes and businesses near the White River in the blue areas on the map below are at a Level 1 evacuation, which means you should be prepared to leave if necessary. Areas that could see flood impacts include the residential neighborhood off 29th Street as well as the industrial businesses along 24th Street, 16th Street and 140th Avenue E. While we hope impacts remain minimal, any change will happen in the early morning hours. It’s best to prepare as a precaution now. This morning, the Puyallup and White Rivers flowed together a little sooner than usual. Our flood wall continues to protect our regional wastewater treatment facility. Houston Road, State Street & the Sumner Link Trail remain closed. The Puyallup River is receding but will be back up tomorrow.

11/18/25: Structure Fire – Unincorporated Pierce County (Near Buckley) East Pierce Fire & Rescue responded around 12:30 a.m. to a reported structure fire. Crews arrived to find a barn-like outbuilding fully involved in fire. Tragically, one person was found deceased inside the structure. No other injuries have been reported. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, Medical Examiner’s Office, and forensic investigators responded to the scene. The cause is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office. Crews are in the process of clearing the scene, which has been turned over to the Pierce County Fire Marshal. No further information is available at this time.

11/04/25: Crews were dispatched around 2:15 a.m. this morning to a reported residential fire in the Lake Tapps area. Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from a single-story home. Crews quickly located and extinguished the fire, preventing further spread. No injuries were reported. The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. #EastPierceFire #EPFR
