Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Inspector Park Seungil’s Blog Update (~1000 words)
#DOYOUNG #도영
“Honestly, until recently, I didn’t really know NCT Doyoung well. Actually, even now, I still don’t know him that well. The only thing I knew was that his older brother is the actor Gongmyung. I had watched a season of a camping program that his brother appeared in.
He just seemed like a well-mannered young man, and that was all. Then this time, I happened to see various sides of his younger brother, Doyoung. It was purely by chance.
And now, there’s only one thought I have now: “I’m rooting for you.” That’s all.”
This was a post written on my personal SNS after first getting to know NCT’s Doyoung about two months ago.
It has already been about six months since I began working in a new department. On weekdays, I work in Sejong, and on Friday evenings, I head to Seoul. At first, I even considered commuting to Seoul every day. However, I gave up after just three weeks. Matching the SRT schedule and repeatedly traveling between Suseo Station and Osong Station, the pressure of being pressed for time tightened around me more than I expected. Invisible fatigue gradually built up.
It was during that period of time. On April 24, there was an event at Cheonggye Plaza in Seoul. It was a place prepared over more than a month. The role I was assigned to was related to suicide prevention among military personnel. Among those duties was appointing an Ambassador of Life to represent the military.
At first, there were several candidates. After much consideration, the person selected was idol group NCT’s Doyoung. To be honest, I did not know him well. What songs he sang, what kind of image he showed on broadcasts. I met him without really knowing these things.
And at the moment we first met, one thought passed through my mind: “Celebrities are, indeed, celebrities.”
The presence that came from his appearance and aura was clearly different. However, up until that point, I still did not know about him as a ‘person.’ I only knew that he had consistently continued donations until before enlistment. That was all.
Then he said: “If I can pass on the love I have received to someone else, I think that alone holds meaning.”
The words that came from his mouth were short, but they lingered strangely long. At first, I thought they were prepared words. But within a conversation that continued for nearly an hour, that thought gradually began to shake. There was no hesitation in his words, and his gaze did not waver. It did not feel like something said for others to hear, but rather like words he had already repeated to himself many times.
At that moment, I reflected more deeply on myself. Since when had I been judging people by outward appearance and brief information? I felt ashamed of myself several times.
As the conversation gradually eased, we exchanged light jokes. Only then did I finally see it—not the celebrity on stage, but Doyoung as a person. Judging by age, I am clearly older, but at certain moments, I felt that there were actually many things I had to learn from him.
On the day of the event, Cheonggye Plaza was filled with people from early on. They were fans who had gathered to see Doyoung. It was far more people than expected, and for a moment, concerns about safety crossed my mind. However, that concern did not last long.
The fans quietly, and in an orderly manner, kept their places. No one pushed forward excessively, and they maintained space while being considerate of one another. Even after Doyoung left to return to his unit, many fans remained until the end and watched the performance.
Watching that scene, a thought naturally came to me: “Fans eventually come to resemble that person.”
Perhaps the attitude and heart/feelings he showed were conveyed just as they were to his fans as well.
