The fact that you think he actually wants to make Canada our 51st state shows how little you understand what he is doing. He wants fair trade and more buy in from Canada on the international stage. He told Trudeau “you might as well” become our 51st state if we are going to give you money. He wants reciprocation! He wants to stop ships from having to pay $450k/ship to cross the Panama Canal that we built and donated to them. He wants to incorporate Greenland like Puerto Rico so that we can utilize the resources in an emergency or if we need the positioning in a future conflict. I’m sure there are other reasons too. These are ALL tactics in negotiation. The right understands it and jokes about it. We take him seriously, you take him literally.

If you're going to stand beside this man, then stand beside him. Defend this. Mount an ethical defense of this behavior. Explain to those of us confused TDS sufferers what we get wrong when we are revolted by this vulgarity, by a man who is to be our standard bearer.

To multiply is to make more of. Not adding but multiplying something with something to make something greater. 1x1 can not exist. Multiply 1 apple by 1 apple. You do not get 1 apple. You get 2 apples. It's not just 1x1 either. It's any number multiplied by 1. 3 apples multiplied by 1 apple can not make 3 apples. Math is not a factual concept, it is a theoretical science.
