@arcticninjapaul I pray my dad gets out of jail soon because you remind me so much of him, I go at least once every other week with my amc pass to keep up the tradition of seeing new releases like me and him used to when I was a kid

My son, 16, went and saw the Super Mario Galaxy Movie yesterday by himself. I called him and he informed me he was just leaving the theater. Said it was okay, but better than the first one. At first, I was pissed that he didn't invite me, as we almost always go to the movies together. It's been our thing for a long time. But, then, I thought about it and I'm actually glad he didn't invite me. I don't really have any desire to see it, really, but it would've been an opportunity to hang out with my kid, something that happens less and less with each passing day. So, there's that aspect. He's been going to the movies with me literally since the first month of his life. He's been raised with the experience, but he's not a die hard movie geek like me. He enjoys movies, but they don't rule his life. That's fair. But, what struck me was that he went by himself, by choice, to see something he was curious about. He's been raised on video games as much as movies, so that tracks, but he easily could've waited for streaming or watching bootleg clips on YouTube. Nope. He got off work, drove to the theater, watched the movie, then drove home. It reminded me of this guy I used to see in the mirror every day who did the same thing when he was in high school. It was a cherished thing, going to the movies. The experience of the big screen, dark lights, and focused attention for a few hours is magical. And these days, we're constantly talking about how it's coming to an end. Streaming, Gaming, Internet, Social Media, all vying for the attention of our youth. What chance do movies have? Well, here's one. My son is into all of that stuff, like every other teenager his age, but the theatrical experience still means something to him, the generation we keep saying will let it die. I went from being pissed about not being invited to being immensely proud and full of hope that my son will carry this tradition on with his own kids and then their kids. I know we're all worried about war and aliens and god and AI and everything else, but... ...kids are still choosing to go to the movies. And that's a good thing. This is not a "and everyone clapped" story, just something I was ruminating over this morning and I thought I'd share. Take your kids to the movies. Show them your favorites. Endure the terrible ones they want to watch. Keep going. It will take hold. Not because it's ingrained, but because they'll see the magic of it. You can read more about my journey as a film journalist here. I promise I didn't mean to turn this into a commercial, but I AM selling a book, so... arcticninja.substack.com/p/confessions-…

🚨 OFFICIAL STATEMENT I am writing to formally announce that, effective immediately, I (unseen) will no longer be purchasing or consuming Pepsi products. Pepsi’s decision to withdraw its long-standing sponsorship of the 2026 Wireless Festival, solely on the basis of Kanye “Ye” West being announced as headliner, was, in my view, the wrong decision. Rather than standing by one of the UK’s most iconic music festivals, Pepsi chose to bow to public pressure and walk away from an event that hundreds of thousands of music fans look forward to each year. Kanye “Ye” West is one of the most influential and celebrated artists of his generation, and his scheduled three-night headline appearance at Wireless 2026 represents a landmark moment for UK live music. Pepsi’s withdrawal is a disappointing response to what should have been an exciting cultural event. As a consumer, I vote with my wallet. Until Pepsi demonstrates a renewed commitment to supporting the UK music and festival community, I will be taking my custom elsewhere. I encourage others who feel the same to make their voices heard.

Wireless Festival is standing by Ye as the festival’s headliner 🚨 Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic, which organizes Wireless Festival, has made a statement: "I am a deeply committed anti-fascist and have been all my adult life. I lived on a kibbutz for many months in the 1970’s that was attacked on October 7th, am pro Jew and the Jewish state, while being equally committed to a Palestinian state.  "Having had a person in my life for the last 15 years who suffers from mental illness, I have witnessed many episodes of despicable behaviour that I have had to forgive and move on from. If I wasn’t before, I have become a person of forgiveness and hope in all aspects of my life, including work. "What Ye has said in the past about Jews and Hitler is as abhorrent to me as it is to the Jewish community, the Prime Minister and others that have commented and - taking him at his word - to Ye now also.  "Ye’s music is played on commercial radio stations in this country. It is available via live streams and downloads in this country without comment or vitriol from anyone and he has a legal right to come into the country and to perform in this country. He is intended to come in and perform. We are not giving him a platform to extol opinion of whatever nature, only to perform the songs that are currently played on the radio stations in our country and the streaming platforms in our country and listened to and enjoyed by millions.  "Forgiveness and giving people a second chance are becoming a lost virtue in this ever-increasing divisive world and I would ask people to reflect on their instant comments of disgust at the likelihood of him performing (as was mine) and offer some forgiveness and hope to him as I have decided to do"
