I’ll never understand why libs went after normie Republicans so hard (eg Romney in 2012, the SPLC going after milquetoast pro life groups, etc.). Libs had a defanged, captured opposition who were happy going 60mph in the same direction the Left was heading towards at 90 mph and who just wanted things to be a little more ‘free market.’ Libs should have buttressed Chamber-of-Commerce Republicans. That they didn’t and instead tried to anathematize them was a generational political error.

It’s amazing that there are still campaigns to persuade people that Trump is ineffective or useless. If these campaigns can have any effect, it’s only because voters can be convinced that still wanting him to do more means he hasn’t done anything. I find it difficult to fathom such cognitive insensitivity.

I spent a term a few years ago pulling my hair out over student AI usage. I’ve ended up finding consolation only in two things: its inevitability, and letters of recommendation becoming a primary mechanism of evaluation. I am still rather alone among colleagues in having found any consolation whatsoever. Many schools are having a hard time accepting that prestige of old, and the methods of achieving it, are largely expiring. It matters less what you’ve done than what you will now do. We are in an era of leveling. If you care so much about prestige, then you will simply enter the ring and let the best win.

My girlfriend’s mom was a matriarch-type who took pride in providing for her family. For example, she nearly completely subsidized her sister (gf’s aunt) for fear that she couldn’t make it on her own. When her mom died, my girlfriend inherited her bank account. Her aunt was on the account as a dependent, so her mom could more efficiently subsidize her. With her mom gone, her aunt no longer received any subsidies, as my girlfriend avoids all contact with that side of her family. But my girlfriend can still monitor her aunt’s account.
