IMO launches are a highly overweighted role in product marketing.
It's hard for me to not roll my eyes when I see "product launch and release planning" listed as a KRA in a job description.
If you follow the hottest startups coming out of accelerators today, you'll notice that their leadership is shipping features every day, sometimes multiple times a day.
If you are truly in the product business, that's the velocity you need to aim for.
A lot of "product launch" work, as slightly larger companies tend to use the term, is nothing more than internal stakeholder theatre and slide deck ping pong.
Then you launch the big thing and get 3 likes, 2 of whom are people in your own team.
Talk about your product every single day, leave the big launch to the FAANGs of the world. (Or it that MANGO now?)
