@RokoMijic @nice_cuppa Churches are still legal, Freemasons are still legal, guilds, rotary, pubs, etc. Yet all in decline. People are not bowling alone due to Jews or migrants. They are being displaced and discouraged by a government that wants no competing civil society, TV and social media.

I think a lot of the nastiness surrounding the Hatzola ambulances is rooted in envy. People in the UK are envious that a community got together and did something good because they know that their own communities wouldn't do the same. Rather than emulating us, they choose to hate.

@33_34Guy @2Philosophical_ The world already has. They won the battle on terminology. You can’t unwind that clock. What you can do is accept a state of affairs on the terminology, and then define your distinctions carefully thereafter. Such has it always been in the public arena.

As someone who’s seriously considered converting to Catholicism, I’ll say: there’s a BIG antisemitism problem in Catholicism (and Orthodoxy), especially among the young. Good Catholics would do well to exert more energy dealing with that than whinging about Ted Cruz’s retweets.

@Noahpinion People already readily accept being pets. Most people throughout history have been slaves, serfs, followers, god fearing and worker bees. Locus of control is not most people’s priority.

This pitch won't be enough. Pets lead very nice lives, and the big AI labs are telling people that their future is to be AI's pets. People aren't going to accept radical disempowerment in exchange for infinite food.
Joshua Achiam@jachiam0

We're entering the phase of AI politics where society will intensely debate whether it is a good idea to build AI at all. Builders need to make the case. The way I see it, AI is our best chance to defeat hunger, want, death, and war. It's a moral imperative to try.

@DCinvestor The most egregious case was when the US was attacked in the most heinous surprise attack by the Japanese, and then sent most of its forces to Africa! Instead of fighting in the Pacific, it fought in Africa because Churchill called the shots.

@DCinvestor The US always has to be a client state of someone. Before, it was Europe. Before that it was South Vietnam. Before that, South Korea. Before that it was Britain. And in 1776, it was France. This is because the US has no strategic interests of it's own. Sad.

it brings me no joy to say this, but despite being the world’s richest and most powerful nation on earth the US is now a straight-up client state to Israel if you have no other takeaway from all of this, then let that be it it is literally impossible to deny it any longer

ISRAEL WORRIED TRUMP’S ‘VICTORY’ MAY DIFFER Senior Israeli officials warn that Donald Trump’s view of ending the Iran war may be sooner than Israel prefers. Israel is preparing to intensify strikes if the U.S. pushes for a quicker conclusion. Officials say IDF and U.S.

It is curious that those on the left—the alleged advocates of democracy—are not the more ardent supporters of gun ownership and the Second Amendment. The pro-social, pro-civilizational purpose of guns is, after all, equality. Guns' most distinct virtue is not the ability to go hunting on the weekends, nor even for use in home defense. Rather, their most distinct virtue is in the egalitarian expression of power, arguably *the* foundational prerequisite for democracy. Tyranny or fascism of any kind is most difficult among a well-armed populace. This point is indisputable. Thus, any group that advocates highly centralized, hierarchical power, should oppose broad gun ownership. And any group that advocates highly decentralized, democratic power, should so sanctify it. What are we to make of the modern Left, then? Where is their advocacy of egalitarianism on the very policy which most enables it?

The role of guns in defending against tyranny in the modern world used to be debated. We got the answer recently imo. It’s explicitly the NRA advocates that have been most ardent supporters of ICE acting unconstitonally, etc. we saw what happens after a protestor is shot for having a legally owned holstered firearm; the results of challenging state warrantless kidnapping of citizens, etc. I don’t think there’s any evidence private gun ownership prevents or even mitigates fascism.

SHOCKING: 🇸🇦 Tawaf around the Kaaba turns horrifying. Tiny defenseless kids are chained or leashed to adults. They're dragged helplessly as grown-ups keep circling—blood stains on arms and ground. The huge crowd flows around them like nothing's happening.
