@DetroitOnLion So nothing about what the player cost the team by retiring at the worst possible time?

@nickbaumgardner I’m actually fine with them recouping a portion of the bonus But I think we all can agree that it’s a good thing Rod Wood will not be making public statements for the team for much longer. Think he skipped media training

@tupacisscene @DetroitOnLion Agree. I’m saying Decker made a big mistake by declaring he wouldn’t take a pay cut to the Lions and prematurely announcing his return publicly before getting any assurance that he would return at his full salary

I have zero problem with the Lions asking Decker to take a pay cut. And zero problem with Decker saying "no." But the communication needs to be way better about that, based on Decker's side of the story. He deserved better.
Chris (Knows Ball)@KnowsChris12300

@DetroitOnLion I don’t agree, it sounds like they didn’t want to pay up and he didn’t want to not get paid. It’s his fault for overvaluing himself.

@DetroitOnLion @KnowsChris12300 How were the Lions supposed to know when Decker would announce? And why did Decker decide to post while Brad was ghosting him and after Dan publicly says, “look, if it’s not (Decker returning), then we’ve got to find a guy”?

@KnowsChris12300 Tell him BEFORE he announces his intentions on returning for an 11th season that he doesn't fit on the team's budget.

@swarheit Seems like Decker knew it was a possibility and affirmatively raised it himself. The Lions rightfully didn’t respond So if you knew the team COULD ask you to take a pay cut and they’ve been radio silent, why would you go public w/o first making sure that’s not on the table?

@DetroitOnLion Exit interview was not proper setting in my opinion to discuss a contract restructuring. Decker would want his agent present. They were giving him space. He called Campbell to give them his decision. Then reality set in motion. Think it’s naive on Decker’s part a bit too

Granted this is just Decker's perspective, but this is an extremely disappointing read. For a franchise that prides itself on its direct communication and telling players like it is--even when it's a hard truth--someone dropped the ball here... repeatedly.
Justin Rogers | Detroit Football Network@Justin_Rogers

I met Taylor Decker at his home yesterday to talk about his strange offseason , the timeline of his decision to play in 2026, to request his release, and continued communication issues that are fueling awkwardness between the longtime stalwart and the only team he's ever known: detroitfootball.net/p/communicatio…

@DetroitOnLion Umm, that’s the biggest mistake in this entire saga. Nowhere in Justin’s story does it say the Lions ever agreed Decker won’t take a pay cut. Decker made an assumption and made it public.

The only way I think you can pin the lack of communication on Decker is that he probably shouldn't have announced his return until Holmes returned his call. But it's also not great that Holmes didn't return his text or call.

@DetroitOnLion Deck in exit interviews says he won’t take a pay cut. Lions say nothing Deck tells Dan he wants to play; Dan says great I’ll talk to Brad Deck jumps the gun and posts he’s back b4 he or his agent talk to Brad Lions tell him he needs to take a pay cut. Deck says no Lions>Deck

People outside Detroit can’t have it both ways Detroit can’t on one hand be a bunch of dudes with no talent that just try hard and suck cause they can’t shoot threes being carried by Cade, and then in the next breath talk about how they play w/o Cade. *not directed @ josh*

I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public. I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are. 1/ Here's what I can share:

are the Lions one Trey Hendrickson away from restoring goodwill? if not something splashy like that, what would change the temperature for you? things seem kind of gloomy around here after less than 12 hours of tampering.

@JimCosta_ Lopez is from AZ and went to school there. The player has to want to be here too. Also funny how ppl are doubting Brad’s ability to get players in free agency bc he didn’t re-sign someone that he brought in as a FA last year

Seeing people upset because he was productive and the cost to match is reasonable At the same time they are obligated ($) to bank on better years from Tyleik Williams (Rookie) & Alim McNeill (ACL recovery) Can they gamble with a depth band-aid there while targeting other spots?
Ian Rapoport@RapSheet

The #AZCardinals are signing #Lions FA DT Roy Lopez to a 2-year, $11.5M deal with $7M guaranteed, per me and @TomPelissero. Deal done by Zeke Sandhu of @KlutchSports.

@ChrisSalts Seems like they want to move now to set up their O-line for the next 5 years. Move Penei now to LT so you can draft a RT, sign a FA center, and keep the guards where they are. Otherwise they would have to shuffle again next year or when Decker inevitably has an injury this season

I see people saying this, and I’m not gonna say it’s wrong. In fact, I think that is exactly what it was, but my question is why even mess with it? Decker isn’t overpaid, and he’s certainly not underpaid. Paying him what he was getting paid seemed like a no brainer to me.
Timothy Ray Brandon@TBrandon84

They wanted to restructure or him to take a pay cut to improve the team, he said no. Guaranteed that's what those "surprising discussions" were.

@erikschlitt Yeah this sounds right. Solid high floor. Keep Tate at RG to help. Spend a ton in FA for a C. Would feel better about Mahogany or Frazier in between Penei and McGovern than Graham and Decker

First 5 Seasons as an NFL GM Les Snead — Rams (2012–2016) • Record: 31–48–1 (.387) • 0 Division Titles • 0 Playoff Appearances • 0 Winning Seasons Brad Holmes — Lions (2021–2025) • Record: 48–36–1 (.564) • 2 Division Titles • 2 Playoff Appearances • 4 Winning Seasons
Jim Costa@JimCosta_

With the Trent McDuffie deal the Rams have traded their 1st round pick in 9 of the last 10 drafts In that time they won a Super Bowl, 10 playoff games and 4 division crowns. Only 1 losing season That’s the organization Brad Holmes apprenticed under Where is the disconnect?
