@MicahDail Just a caution that if you have many rows and deep hierarchies (along with many measures), then perf on the matrix suffers. So worth testing.

@MicahDail It might be worth looking into the Inforiver matrix (if you have the appetite). We had a very similar scenario and found that Inforiver had very nice (and flexible) ragged hierarchy handling, and made the measures simpler. (Btw I/my company has no affiliation with Inforiver!)

Hey all my #PowerBI peeps! Anybody know the inside scoop on when HideBlankMembers will actually work? I'm tired of having PBI visuals with blank children in ragged hierarchies. Thanks!

@mim_djo @DeltaLakeOSS The cost of streaming data back to the Synapse Studio web client can be non-trivial. Anyway, I'm not sure it'll change your original conclusion regarding single vs multi-node architectures😀

@mim_djo @DeltaLakeOSS Depending on the size of the resultset, be careful using Synapse Studio timings as a direct indicator of performance. See whether using a local client (SSMS/Azure Data Studio) makes a difference. I've had some queries be an order of magnitude faster for operations like these.

#duckdb vs #azuresynapse serverless querying a very small @DeltaLakeOSS table from azure storage, 500 ms vs 13 second Single node for the win 🤡🤡

@alexdupler @ehansalytics @DOtykier From a Power BI Desktop perspective, doesn't the "Pause visuals" functionality brought in a few months ago give you that middle ground, to some extent? #pause-visuals" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi…

@ehansalytics @DOtykier There is clearly some kind of middle ground nirvana. Like a pause evaluation or limited evaluation mode so you can make a batch of changes without waiting or via script and then all the automated checks run once.

It is amazing how much work the #PowerBI desktop app does in the background for you. Examples of what you have to do manually using Tabular Editor: ✔️Adding a column to a table, you have to set the field type and the source column that data comes from, which is usually the same name, but could be different I suppose. ✔️Adding or modifying a relationship requires recalculation of the model. ✔️Adding a shared expression (code in Power Query that load is set to disabled) require setting the “Kind” property to M. ✔️Changing the DAX of a calculated table or column requires recalculation of that table These are just a few examples. Next time you make a change to the model in some way and get the spinning “Working” dialing box, it’s likely checking, changing, and validating dozens (hundreds?) of settings and calculation states.

Anyone located the new theme schema that #PowerBI is publishing to lint your theme json file against?

1st issue of @AzureWeekly for 2023 almost done. It's a whopper. 220+ articles. The emergent theme from the community is "cutting the cost of #azure spend" 🔎💰

@GiveBloodNHS Hi there, I'm due to give blood next Monday. Will the donation centre still be open (given that it's a bank holiday for the Queen's state funeral)? Thanks!
