OPINION: The WORST thing the MCU and DCU ever did was set superhero movies in today's real world. Superheroes used to be pure escapism. For 2+ hours you could live in a world where good always triumphed over evil. A world where powerful MEN sacrificed all to save the innocent from the wicked. And we the audience loved them, trusted them, needed them - and PAID GOOD MONEY TO SEE THEM. Then the studios decided the superhero world should be OUR EXACT WORLD - complete with modern day american politics. Which is why we got: Captain Marvel lecturing pilots about mansplaining. She-Hulk twerking and complaining about catcalling. Thor whining about toxic masculinity and fat-shaming himself. The Eternals debating climate change and colonialism. Black Panther movies turning into anti-white guilt trips. Superman in the new DCU worrying about "privilege" and border walls. And POOF, there went the fantasy that made Marvel and DC $36.6 BILLION COMBINED. And now good guys are flawed emotional losers, villains have "valid points," and the message is always: America bad, patriarchy bad, tradition bad. Producers blur the line between good and evil so heroes fight against other heroes MORE than they go against actual villains. There's no hope, no optimism... ...and no wonder nobody shows up anymore. We wanted heroes, not therapy sessions.
