The solution to the theatrical problem is very simple. Extend the time before it goes to streaming. Make it 180 days. 6 months. If you don't watch it in theaters you won't get to see it for a long time. Studios have devalued their product by letting the consumer know there's no urgency. They're going to see it for "free" later. They've cheapened the business into a buffet and violated basic supply and demand.

The closure of the Cinerama Dome and Arclight Hollywood, for six years now, still feels like an open wound for me. I genuinely spent more time in those cinemas than anywhere else in L.A. and it remains very sad that this moviegoing mecca can't come back. I still hold out hope.

@BilgeEbiri @edgarwright @Lilfilm Fair enough but anyone complaining about the quality of the motion picture exhibition scene in LA isn't paying much attention; it's a far better town to watch movies in than it was a little under a decade ago when I arrived, with rep programming on most nights that outpaces NYC.

@MatthewACherry Yes, between the Landmark on Pico and the Arclight Hollywood going, two great places to premiere an indie movie are gone.

What an incredible night at the @am_cinematheque on Saturday to celebrate the 5th anniversary of my @sparksofficial documentary ‘The Sparks Brothers’. Because of COVID I wasn’t able to do any press in the USA when the film opened in 2021 and so this public Q&A with myself together with Ron and Russell Mael was a first! Thanks to the amazing Fred Armisen for moderating and for so many ex and current members of Sparks for attending; Earle Mankey, Harley Feinstein, David Kendrick, Les Bohem, Christi Haydon, Dean Menta and Evan Weiss. Also to many contributors to the doc who were able to come; @jakefogelnest, Pamela Des Barres, Pamela Jane Lowe, Larry DuPont, Lance Rock, Lena Mesiano and the amazing Weird Al Yankovich. Huge thanks, as ever, to the amazing team at the Egyptian Theatre for making this dream screening a reality. And to the great audience too!
