#December7 | On this day in 1830, Filipino lawyer Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista was born in Biñan, Laguna. He drafted the Philippine Declaration of Independence, which he read to a crowd gathered outside Aguinaldo’s mansion in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898.

His works, usually set during the Spanish and American colonial period, examine the effects of colonialism and class struggle on Filipino society.

He is one of the most critically acclaimed Filipino authors, having received the Pablo Neruda Centennial Award Centennial Award, the Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres, Ramon Magsaysay Award, and the Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for Literature, which he won four times.

#December3 | On this day in 1924, Filipino novelist and National Artist for Literature Francisco Sionil Jose was born in Rosales, Pangasinan. He authored a series of five novels collectively known as the Rosales saga as well as other novels and short stories in English.

#December2 | On this day in 1899, Filipino general Gregorio del Pilar along with 60 soldiers of the Philippine Revolutionary Army fought against 300 American soldiers from the American 33rd Volunteer Infantry Regiment led by Major Peyton March in the Battle of Pasong Tirad.

#November30 | On this day in 1863, Katipunan founder and leader Andres Bonifacio was born in Tondo, Manila.

#November29 | On this day in 1935, Pan American Airways’ Martin M-130 flying boat, dubbed the "China Clipper," arrived in Manila. The plane departed San Francisco, California on Nov. 22, 1935, carrying over 110,000 pieces of mail. It was the first commercial trans-Pacific flight.

Everyday History: On this day in 2009, hundreds of armed men led by Datu Unsay, Maguindanao Mayor Andal Ampatuan Jr. murdered 58 people (including 32 journalists) in Ampatuan, Maguindanao.

#November21 | On this day in 1849, Spanish Governor-General Narciso Claveria decreed the printing of the "Catalogo Alfabetico de Apellidos," a list containing over 60,000 Spanish and local surnames that were distributed to Filipino families.

#November20 | On this day in 1915, Felix Makasiar, the 14th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines was born in Siaton, Negros Oriental.
