🚨BREAKING: ICE agents are now impersonating U.S. Marshals to try to force their way into courthouses, in Chicago. Yesterday, eyewitnesses say an ICE agent walked into the Circuit Court of Cook County, on Harrison St., and claimed to be a U.S. Marshal in order to gain access to the building. Court staff refused to let them in. After being turned away, the agent reportedly got into an unmarked vehicle, turned on flashing lights, and sped away. Claiming to be another federal law enforcement agency, to gain access to a restricted government building, is illegal. Courthouses are supposed to be places where people can safely show up… attend hearings, testify in cases, seek protection, resolve legal issues. But, when ICE starts lying about who they are to get inside, it sends a very clear message to the public: No one is safe showing up to court. And that doesn’t make communities safer… it makes the entire legal system harder to function. So, now the question is… Why are federal agents pretending to be U.S. Marshals just to get into a courthouse? Because if law enforcement has to lie about their identity to do their job… Then they already know what they’re doing is illegal.
