@MoveBravely Ditto My first guess was STARE. My second guess was SHEIK which gave me the S, the E and the K in the correct positions. Then nailed it on the third try.

So what are your three "best books" that one (I) should read first?
Geri Seiberling@geriwithetc

@rnason_dal Good reminder. We CANNOT read them all. “Read the best books first, or you may not have a chance to read them at all.” — Henry David Thoreau

@rnason_dal @WSJ Hmm...in the midst of updating our managment text- Pearson now has a Diversity consultant who vets our work. I was writing about cognitive diversity based on the CPS profile not about DEI diversity. Tell you more on Thursday.

perhaps this illustrates the need to have a discussion about the need for cognitive diversity in addition to identity diversity. wsj.com/finance/invest… via @WSJ

@MoveBravely So....In Candada does that mean that there is no U in USA? You will hate me for this - my second guess was savor figuring it was a US game with US spelling. Emphasis on "GUESS"

@rnason_dal "WTF did he just say? and How does it apply to me and my practice of managment" would be a value add from managment peers.

Peer review has its place, but who are the peers - especially for mgmt studies. Academics are now purely writing for other academics. Mgmt is an applied science, & while there is a place for theory, theory should not totally crowd out the profession. Have managers peer review ...

@bruceclarkprof @DougGarnett @lakens @rnason_dal @MbaElmer Watched a vid from a young researcher the other day about the consequences of the gamification of the h-index. He also shares how these games negatively impact young researchers w/o tenure in his field. Was an interesting watch. youtu.be/sQhAbwW9-7Q?si…

@rnason_dal One of the key responses in a logituunal study on impactful teachers - professors was "they remembered my name and used it when they spoke with me"

Which is just one reason I argue that teacher as well as professor evaluations should be done 5 years or so after graduation
Doug Garnett (Formerly @AtomicAdMan)@DougGarnett

@rnason_dal I recall Deming having done some research into long term effects. He observed that teachers remembered fondly through life weren't obvious until 10 or more years later and, then, for things tangential to what they were intentionally teaching. And those things matter greatly.

I am a fan of Mintzberg. His clear writing cuts through the BS of academic thinking of management / leadership and avoids the wooly thinking on consultants. Great review of his new book by The Key Point Understanding Organizations Finally! thekeypoint.org/2024/03/24/und…

@rnason_dal Your note triggers a memory for me. I loved to read as a kid. In Grade 2 I came home in tears after the librarian had limited me to only 2 books because my Mom had reached out to the school because she felt I was spending too much time in the books & not outside playing.

When I was in middle school - in the 70's, the school gave us 20 minutes of reading time every morning. We could read whatever we wanted. It was an awesome way to start the school day.

Only I can manage to have a typo in a tweet that is a rant about typos! It takes a special level of stupidity, carelessness and lack of oversight to manage that. I guess I am just that talented! 🤓😎
