Frightening news has emerged from Tulum, with some attendees at Solomun’s show at Tehmplo on January 8 claiming there was a shooting with people dead or injured.
Anonymous Facebook and Reddit users wrote that they heard gunshots, that there were people dead or injured in a bathroom, that the main entrance was closed off temporarily — and that the show continued. Videos on social media showed attendees running.
Local news outlet @quintanarooahora reported in Spanish: “According to preliminary information, a man was executed with two shots—one to the chest and one to the back—becoming the first fatal victim of 2026 in Tulum under the current municipal administration. The incident also brought back memories of the violent end to 2025, a year that left an approximate toll of 60 people executed in the municipality.
“Beyond the crime itself, what sparked the most outrage was the authorities’ response. For several hours, the government apparatus stayed silent about what happened, presumably to keep the homicide from tarnishing the destination’s image during peak season. The music kept playing while the killing was, in effect, swept under the rug.”
The shooting and any deaths or injuries remain unconfirmed by authorities.
Was anyone there? Is Tulum safe??

Our Artist Of The Year is @realmaup !
For many artists, making a global hit claiming No. 1 on Beatport's Top 10 for over a month would be a career climax. For Dutch producer Mau P, 'Drugs From Amsterdam' was a debut single that got the world to watch him prove, one beat at a time, that he is no one-hit wonder.
It all started in late 2022 when his eerie tech-house tune with a rave-like vibe creeped up from Europe and spread across the continent to the U.S. and beyond. Everywhere from warehouses to mega clubs, dance music fans were humming along to the lyrics, "Off my face, Don't know where I am, 'Cause I got my drugs from Amsterdam..." It was hard to imagine a more infectious hit from Mau P. But he had multiple up his sleeve.
While on his first North America tour in January 2023, Mau P unleashed 'Gimme That Bounce', with a similarly addictive bassline and lyrics. He followed it up with 'Your Mind Is Dirty' and 'Dress Code', building his brand of dark humor-tinted tech-house. 2024 was even bigger for him, with releases including 'On Again', 'Receipts' with Diplo and Gunna, and 'MERTHER' sampling Ini Kamoze’s reggae classic 'World a Music'. He unveiled his SiriusXM show, 'XXX Radio'. Still, none of us foresaw what he had coming in 2025.
In February, Mau P delivered his remix of Tame Impala's 'The Less I Know The Better', and it marked a new breakthrough for him. It notched his first-ever No. 1 on Billboard's Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. 'Drugs From Amsterdam' had peaked at No. 16 in 2023. Mau P also dropped his 'Too Big For B-Side' album with the banger 'Like I Like It', and a new fan favorite, 'TESLA'.
While it may seem like Mau P popped out of nowhere, he has been active in dance music for a decade. The artist born Maurits Westveen launched his career during the golden era of EDM as a big room producer.
This year, Mau P made his highly anticipated debut at the holy grail of mainstream music festivals, Coachella. He also sold out 40,000 tickets across two days of his multidisciplinary show concept, Baddest Behaviour, at Los Angeles State Historic Park.
