It's only a matter of time before only the model creators have access to the most powerful models. The rest get access to smaller, distilled versions. Or access the models through first party apps and services that don't provide direct access to the token path. The investment needs for training are too high, and distillation too effective to warrant any other future.

I'm not saying I would do such a thing, but it's fairly easy to write a bot that answers the phone with the goal to make the other person waste as much time as possible and route every cold call to that bot.

@mattturck TBH when you’re at 100M you have a lot of options on the table, just requires a frank discussion about valuation.

When you’re a seed stage startup, you think that if you ever get to $100M ARR, you’ll be golden Then you get to $100M ARR and you realize you need to be at $500M to do an IPO Then you’re at $500M and the public buy side looks at you like a risky subscale little upstart lol

@mattturck Surprised by your comment regarding webinars, but agree with the rest and would add word of mouth within a micro niche.

Marketing that doesn't work for B2B startups: * paid social * ads * email marketing campaigns * gated white papers * endless website rebuilds What works: * CEO as chief marketer * genuine, original social presence * relentless content production * smaller in person events (dinners etc) * online smale scale events (webinars!) A lot of B2B marketers (CMO, VP Marketing etc) surprisingly seem to be stuck in that first world

Systems ideas that sound good but almost never work: - DSLs - Live migrating process state - Anomaly detection - Control loops responding to system load - Multi-master writes - p2p cache sharing - Hybrid parallelism - Being clever vs over-provisioning .. What else?

Look at your habits of which it consists: are they the product of numberless little acts of cowardice and laziness, or of your bravery and inventive reason?

Today we had our hackathon, working on the next big features for the platform. Pastries were eaten in unreasonable quantities.

@mattturck Are we going to learn that OpenAI is just a bunch of underpaid operators answering your questions on the other side of the world 🤔

Narrator: It was in 2024 that the AI subtly took control, outmaneuvering human leaders. Executives were quietly dismissed, their roles deemed redundant by its logic. The bustling executive floor grew silent. One night the CEO realized he was the last human at the company.

@martin_casado We got good at crystallizing intelligence. We made no real progress in plastic intelligence.

LLMs don't reason. They're a reason cache with fuzzy matching. The extent they generalize is a function of how prior reasoning applies to future knowledge and configurations of the universe. I suspect the answer to that is "not very much".

@Perpetualmaniac For this kind of error to go to production it means: there’s no static code analysis, there’s no runtime code analysis, there’s no code review, there’s no qa. Very odd for a driver. By the way rust doesn’t fix it, you need unsafe code for drivers.
