Wait, wait, one more: LEARN THEIR NAMES. Learn them fast, pronounce them correctly, spell them correctly. Learn the names of the kids next door, across the hall, upstairs. USE THEIR NAMES. #kinderchat
5: In your first year in a classroom: set an alarm and GO HOME 90 minutes after your students. The moment of "everything I can possibly do has been done" DOES NOT EXIST. Stop chasing it. Do your best, work hard, and go home. #kinderchat
@hechternacht I loved that it was so easy for a first-timer to join in! I think it would be helpful to have topics that we would be able to both contribute to and learn from. I feel that some topics could be overwhelming for us if we have no experience regarding them.
@eductabismit Also my first time, to be honest I didn't even know this existed! I loved it way more than I thought I would. This hour went by so fast!!
R5: This is my first time participating in a twitter chat like this. I found a great sense of community and support through this chat! It is nice to hear ideas and struggles of other pre service teachers #kinderchat
A5: Sharing literally any and all advice you have! We need role models who are credible and have real experience in the classroom. I'm always so skeptical of some teaching blogs or twitter accounts because anyone could claim to have experience! #kinderchat
@eductabismit I would definitely agree, that was the best experience in high school for me. I will always think back to what I learned during my cadet teaching!
R3: I think my cadet teaching class was an extra valuable class. I got to work with a current elementary teacher and see how she facilitated her classroom and had the chance to practice my teaching skills with a class I got very comfortable with. #kinderchat
A3: I would love to retake my Communication for Youth-Serving Professionals class. It was such a great experience and my service-learning component was so fun. I went to the Boys & Girls Club once a week and got to work with many different students. #Kinderchat
I wanted to get involved with a summer camp but the one here required experience so I can't do it but ... definitely gonna keep that as a possibility for later when I'm eligible #KinderChat
@HaleyBugPeanut Hey, church nursery's can be rough! Your museum experience is awesome though, definitely a wide range of skills could be acquired through that job.
My very first job was at a family campground called Jellystone. I worked with kids by leading various activities and games. It gave me such great experience and I'm FOREVER grateful for that job! #Kinderchat
R1: During my senior year of high school, I cadet taught in kindergarten and first grade classrooms. I am currently in many pre service classes at IU #kinderchat
A1: I'm a freshman at IU. My main education class currently is Using Computers in Education. It's all about how to integrate technology into the classroom. It's been really insightful and has given me many resources to use! #Kinderchat
