Planning a KS4 SoW for AQA Lang Paper 1 Question 5 - if anyone would be willing to share any tips/ resources I'd be incredibly grateful! Leaning towards drop - zoom - shift - link structure for narrative but open to suggestions 😊 #TeamEnglish

@LitdriveUK how can I renew my membership? Every time I try to log in it gives me the message below but it will not let me register again with the same email without logging in!

Our Yr 8s have a discrete 'Literacy' period per week & I am currently revamping the scheme. It's slow going but I'm finally getting somewhere with it. It's one of those jobs I'd given myself all year to complete, yet here we are in June & only getting to it now 🙈

So happy with my English Language A-Level results - 100% A*-C, 100% on or above target, +0.32 value added 🥹🥹 so much hard work involved 😍

@englishspecial I couldn’t agree more! The English Language GCSE does not align with the A-Level content at all anymore. I really hope exam boards look into rectifying this. Linguistics is much more interesting than the current GCSE Language in my opinion 😂👀

@edupayton And the GCSE really does not prepare students (nor teachers) for A level language.

Why only 2.3% getting A star in English Language?

@edupayton @Team_English1 Have you looked at Hackney LIT? Or more broadly reciprocal reader. I find it works really well when done consistently especially in Small groups with good texts. Barrington stoke work really well

Hi guys! Does anyone currently have a reading lesson scheme/programme in their school with attached lessons focusing on core reading skills? I'd love to pick your brains about structuring the sessions if so! @Team_English1

@hkateaching @GCSE_Macbeth Couldn't agree more! I'm so glad it's changed to become a proper study of language. Compared with when I was doing A-Level Lang, it's worlds apart. Although, some of the new content is stuff I studied during my linguistics degree! 😅

@GCSE_Macbeth Just to add to this. A-Level English language is also solid. The level of subject knowledge and brain power you need just for the day to day planning is ridiculous. The jump from GCSE to A level Lang is mental. Esp considering the GCSE specs are mainly lit based skills!

A-Levels are super hard. I mean you, yes YOU English teacher reading this, are you really telling me you'd fancy having to get Streetcar, Hamlet, Wife of Bath, "Poems of the Decade", Mrs Dalloway AND Wuthering Heights all exam-standard in your brain at the same time? UH NO.

We're teaching The Bone Sparrow to Y7 from September so I've planned our unit and thought I'd share, just in case it helps anyone in the same situation. It is such a gorgeous read - I'm so excited to start teaching it! Use if helpful! dropbox.com/scl/fo/v4108qx…

The only way to change this long-standing picture is to stop talking about ability and instead believe and behave as if every child can achieve and build towards that. Ability is old hat!
