I lived in Dubai for 4 years. Here's the most honest breakdown of who Dubai works for and who it really doesn't, '26 edition. Dubai Pros: - Zero personal income tax. No annual filing under certain thresholds. This alone will change your mindset forever. - 90-day tax residency: perfect for pure nomads. - Corporate tax only above AED 375k (~$100k); 9% after that. - The fastest "plug-and-play" life on earth: license, visa, office in a week. - Everything works INSTANTLY: Uber in 1 minute, delivery, all the services you can think of at your fingertips. - Ambition everywhere. It's contagious. - Seven months of perfect weather. - Clean, super safe, efficient. - Global talent concentrated in one place. - Did I mention it's super safe? The Honest Downsides: • Tendency toward transactional relationships. • Food is mediocre unless you go local; upscale places are overpriced and feel plastic (sorry). • You'll always feel like a guest, maybe an honored one, but never part of the place; certainly not a citizen. • International schooling is expensive. • Bureaucracy is not as perfect as it could or should be. • Banking can be painful (especially crypto). • Four months of the year are unlivable. • Life happens inside AC bubbles. • Social life can feel transient. • I've never trusted the real estate market there (eventually, my bad). Dubai Is Ideal For: • Builders in their 20s and 30s. • High-income earners. • Small business owners under the tax threshold. • Digital nomads using the 90-day rule. • Anyone optimizing for speed over depth. • Anyone who can spend summers in Europe: by far the best combo in the world. Not Ideal For: • Families seeking grounding or community (unless you love gated compounds). • People who miss a more Western cultural environment. • People without a plan: Dubai accelerates you, but it doesn't create direction for you; it's usually the contrary. • And maybe marginal, but still relevant for me: dog lovers. Dubai is not a great environment for your four-legged friends, unless they're small and easy to carry on planes. I've also recorded a video on this topic. What's your experience there? youtube.com/watch?v=XtJq68…
