🚨VIDEO for AWARENESS of the importance of First Aid training and the coach wants to share his story.
🗣️It’s taken me two years to finally find the words for this.
Two years ago, I was standing on the sidelines, coaching my son’s team in a cup final. One minute I was focused on the game the next, everything went black... I collapsed.
To this day, I still can’t remember a single thing from those moments. But what I do know is that I was surrounded by people who didn't just stand there they knew exactly what to do. Because of the first aid-trained heroes on that pitch, I’m still here to tell this story.
I’m sharing this not for sympathy, but as a reminder.. First aid training isn't just a certificate it’s the difference between a tragedy and a second chance. Please, if you’ve been putting it off get trained.
You never know whose life might depend on it.

Grassroots football comes as a package, part of that package is sometimes you will win and that's great, also part of the package is that sometimes you'll lose or draw. Part of the package also is that sometimes things won't be perfect, games might get cancelled, volunteers might run late, the grass might not always be cut perfect or the touch lines might need another lick of line paint. Sometimes you will play great and not get the result you deserve and sometimes you won't have a great performance and wonder how you've won. Also part of the package is the officiating won't always be perfect or to the standard you want it, some coaching sessions will be amazing and some will leave you scratching your head. This is all part of the package of grassroots football, life is so much easier and games so much more fun once we accept it all comes as part of a package.

“The decision to cancel a Game”
It’s easy to criticise the decision to cancel a game, but before you do just take a second to think what has gone into making that decision first.
1) Is it safe for everyone and is the forecast safe?
2) Is it currently playable and what is the forecast?
3) Is there a weather warning in place now or whilst the games are on?
4) Will the pitch drain water or thaw frost in time?
5) What’s the temperature forecast now, overnight and during the game?
6) What time is KO and how far are the opposition travelling from?
7) If it’s a central venue, thousands of people will be affected, is an earlier decision better?
Sometimes the decision to cancel is made at the last minute if a belief that the game can be playable will be made, other times an early decision will be made. All decisions are made with the available information at the time and the available upto date weather forecasts. Often the decision is right, sometimes the decision can “in hindsight” be wrong due to many factors such as drainage, temperature, wind etc but always the decision is made in good faith.
Many times we’ve personally made this decision and know it’s not an exact science at times, so a little shoutout of support from teamgrassroots to those with the decision on their shoulders and who will quite often be up late and up early doing last minute checks and obsessively checking weather forecasts. We appreciate it 🙌🏻🙌🏽🙌🏿

At the @punjabi_forest Summer ball… so many wonderful people. I’m on the Morgan Gibbs-White table - excellent selection by the organisers. And here with @saveenajohal , a good friend & fellow BBC #nffc reporter on Forest!
