For over 20 years, we've tracked what countries do for international development. This year, we see unprecedented reversals - two thirds of countries doing less. But there are still bright spots - see where your country ranks; and where could still make a difference.

.@CGDev's analysis of the UK aid cuts is presented to the Prime Minister here by the chair of the International Development Committee, @SarahChampionMP. Read the analysis: cgdev.org/blog/breaking-…

Today, at the Liaison Committee meeting, the Chair, @SarahChampionMP, asked the Prime Minister to set out his vision for global development following the recent cuts to the ODA budget from 0.5% to 0.3% of GNI (Gross National Income).

The updated text on the new climate goal #NCQG is finally out, suggesting a goal of $250bn per year by 2035. This figure is slightly above our 'no effort' baseline scenario of $222bn (this increased current efforts by inflation and economic growth). Short 🧵

@EconMitch and I came up with similar numbers - a face value climate finance fig. of ~$215bn in 2035. And that's *before* you consider MDBs' aim of 50% climate - if they hit that, we might expect $275bn in a no-effort scenario. Model available here: cgdev.org/publication/ba…
Josh Gabbatiss@Josh_Gabbatiss

Important note: On a "business-as-usual" trajectory, with... ⛔️NO new finance pledges ⛔️NO new finance system reforms ⛔️NO extra effort Climate finance reaches ~$200bn by 2030 ...According to analysis by @WatsonCharlene @joethw8s @DavidRyfisch @elecogo nrdc.org/bio/joe-thwait…

Punchy intervention from authors of UN-backed IHLEG climate finance report re #COP29 text 'This figure is too low and not consistent with delivery of the Paris Agreement. Our analysis shows that the NCQG, based on the components that it covers, should commit developed countries to provide at least $300 billion per year by 2030'

What does the UK #Budget24 mean for international development? Headline - the Chancellor becomes the first ever Labour chancellor to cut aid below a prior Conservative Govt. Refugee spend still dictating the UK's international approach. 5-point 🧵on details

New: our @CGDev analysis confirms that #climatefinance exceeded $100bn in 2022 The @OECD will claim this meets the UN goal due in 2020. But was this finance additional? And what does it mean for the new goal to be agreed at #COP29? 5-point🧵

New UK aid stats released today for 2023. Headline is that spend is 0.58% of GNI But this masks that - given record spend on refugees - over half of the UK’s bilateral aid spend was in the UK leading to further cuts in overseas programming. Six key takeaways:
