@PAHoyeck You don’t have to read them all in the same way. Stuff really close to what you do you need to understand. Some stuff you need to be aware of where to find it again. Some stuff is just ideas to have in the back of your mind.

I learned today that some people doing PhDs try ro read TEN journal articles per day. How is it possible to understand and absorb that much material??

My maternal grandfather was an eminent entomologist - his life's work was studying insect behaviour (particularly Aleurodidae) & using his observations to develop & implement crop protection strategies against locusts in: Egypt & Sudan in WW1, cotton boll weevils in the USA & crop pests in general as the Government Entomologist in Malaya. Do not suggest that studying insects is not a real world issue!
