The people of the #Maldives have spoken! Clearly, peacefully, and powerfully. This is an overwhelming victory for @MDPSecretariat in #LCEWDCE2026.
Just as importantly, the #Noonekey (No) vote in the #Referendum2026 is a clear rejection of this government’s political judgment, motives, and credibility. Even those who may have seen merit in discussing whether both elections should be held together, understood that this referendum was not brought forward in good faith, nor with the right intention. The scale of this defeat raises serious questions about the legitimacy of the government’s mandate to govern in the name of the people
I thank every @MDPSecretariat member, every supporter, and every citizen who exercised their democratic right and held the government to account. Your courage has spoken. We receive this victory with humility, gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility. We will not take this trust lightly.
