We have all become addicts. Leave the smartphone at home, keep it in airplane mode, or switch to "dumb" alternatives. We can have friends, media, navigation, scheduling, etc. without profit maximizing and privacy violating apps.

Keyboard walking or pattern passwords are easily guessed. Attackers include these types of password since admins use them (they certainly look random and complex) and are often used as service account passwords. Image reference article: wpengine.com/resources/pass…

New map from @SDWouters of countries suffering under extreme inflation. The reality is even worse, as these are only “official” numbers. Double-digit inflation on the rampage in Cuba, DR Congo, Pakistan, Myanmar, and other nations not listed here

SCOOP: The popular 'COA' NPM library has been hijacked with malicious code, affecting millions of React pipelines worldwide. This hijack is virtually identical to the UA-Parser-JS hijack last month, and also drops a password-stealing trojan. bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/…

In response to my ten most recent prayers: No. No. Maybe. Sorry, can't hear you. Sure. I was planning on doing that anyway. No. Oooh, if you'd asked yesterday I would have said yes. Are you kidding?!? Yes, because I'm a fan of that sports team as well. No.

If you wondered why Ethereum fees are high, here is a typical NFT smart contract function invocation onchain. ~80% of the data is zeroes. Booleans and uint8s are encoded using 32 (!) bytes each.

The offshore secrets of more than 35 current and former presidents revealed in a massive leak. This is one of the most exhausting, complex and potentially explosive investigations I've ever worked on. theguardian.com/news/2021/oct/…

Today Bitcoin was formally recognized as legal tender in its first country. Beyond the headlines, there is now pressure on competing nations to acquire Bitcoin—even if only as a reserve asset—as its design massively incentivizes early adoption. Latecomers may regret hesitating

Just walked into a McDonald's in San Salvador to see if I could pay for my breakfast with bitcoin, tbh fully expecting to be told no. But low and behold, they printed a ticket with QR that took me to a webpage with Lightning invoice, and now I'm enjoying my desayuno traditional!

Your emails, texts, private data, etc will be searched for “suspect content” to catch the “bad guys” before they commit a crime. This isn’t *almost* Thought Police. This is *literally* Thought Police. patrick-breyer.de/en/chatcontrol…

5/ This means Paris still has monetary control over 183M people across a territory of 2.5 million square kilometers, an area 80% the size of India. CFA nations do not control their own currency. To this day they must place 50% of their reserves (!) with the French Treasury.

3/ The primary tool of monetary colonialism was the CFA franc, first introduced in 1945. By 1948, each CFA franc was worth 2 French francs. But by the time the CFA franc was pegged to the euro in the late 1990s, it was worth .01 French francs: a total devaluation of 19,900%
