@AFLcomau Typical AFL: only fix the obvious AFTER a debacle occurs. Never before.

@HawkTalkPod Love that Hawthorn still has no music/amplified crap after goals at our home games. We still have our dignity.

@1116sen Compare last week's articles on how missing out on Merrett was going to sink the club forever. One win later and we never needed him. Goldfish.

@CalTwomey Yes! If the AFL wants to cut out dead time, just cut the shot clock down to 20 seconds. That was aways plenty until Matthew Lloyd came along.

Greg Swann brought in seven new rules. He needs an eighth. The 30-second shot clock has been manipulated for too long. Examples like this Brodie Kemp kick - taking the full time then passing - should see the team surrender the ball. Cal-culations 👉 afl.com.au/news/1479097/c…

@RalphyHeraldSun @HawkTalkPod @TimothyJ_23 There were huge bays of cheep seats in the ponsford that weren’t ever even put online for sale. Forcing you to buy more expensive ones, and declaring tickets as being scarce. The ticket companies and the venues are robbing footy followers blind and the AFL is complicit.

@TimothyJ_23 I think the replies show fans are rightly concerned about fully ticketed games which require them pay $30 to upgrade. I am glad you are going well enough to be immune to cost of living pressures but Andrew Dillon this morning said the afl would review this issue

Jesus this is depressing coverage. 71k and 74k are outstanding crowds, particularly given the low quality / expectations on the clubs involved. Some ticketing decisions (removing GA late in the piece) probably stopped it getting bigger but sheesh painting this as negative? 🚮
Jon Ralph@RalphyHeraldSun

The AFL might have been spoiled with its last two round 1 attendances which were the top two attended rounds in AFL history. Just 71,384 tonight and 74,313 last night when the clubs would have hoped for 80-plus for both of them @FOXFOOTY

"Due to exceedingly high demand, the Essendon Football Club in association with the AFL and MCC have declared Hawthorn's Round 1 blockbuster against Essendon on Friday 13 March as fully ticketed." This announcement made back on March 2nd (!!!) got me thinking, "Oh crap I'd better not chance it and secure tickets for myself and my family." And so I bought tickets, despite membership entitlements. Of course there was no danger of missing out. What a grift.

I reckon this country needs to reconsider copywrite laws for newspapers. Because not being able to put up digital scans of Herald/Sporting Globe/Sun etc after 1955 on Trove, in this day and age is ridiculous.

The deal sees Durham forgo his free agency - which he was due to hit in 2028 - and also be out of Tasmania's grasp as they have access to out of contract players in 2027/28. Elevated to the leadership group this year after being a mid-season pick in 2021.

Exclusive – Essendon has signed Sam Durham to a new MEGA deal to the end of 2032. The emerging star was already signed until 2028, but the new extension plus remaining years make it the biggest deal in club history. Story 👉 afl.com.au/news/1467706

Excellent news. Bombers forced their hand, and they've been made to pony up big time! HAHAHA And now the money that would have been blown on Trash Weddle can be re-directed towards something far more pressing: Zach Merrett's contract extension. Another win for Essendon.

VFL: Montrose skipper Beau Tennant locked in at Box Hill Hawks. Was playing at Montrose under Hawthorn great Gary Ayres, who recommended him to the Hawks. Ayres is chuffed Tennant has made the list and reckons he'll make a good fist of the VFL.

VFL: one for Box Hill Hawks supporters. Round 6 will bring the Hawks' 500th match - Box Hill and Hawthorn have been aligned since 2000 - and it will be against Collingwood at the City Oval. Look for confirmation when the VFL draw comes out next week.
