📢 How does a Cost–Benefit Framework actually work in real life? To find out, we developed three case studies based on pilot implementations in Austria, Estonia, and Israel 🇦🇹🇪🇪🇮🇱. Each case applies the framework in its own context, showing how it can support transparent, evidence-informed decisions on teacher training. 🔍 Spotlight: Austria – SCHILFplus SCHILFplus is a school-based professional development model tailored to each school’s specific needs. Our analysis shows that when SCHILFplus is: ✔ integrated into school development planning ✔ supported by follow-up activities ➡️ it can deliver strong pedagogical value relative to its cost. 💡 Why it matters: Many of the programme’s costs are fixed or one-time, meaning it has potential for wider use. The EffecTive Project was delighted to participate in the American Educational Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting 2026 in Los Angeles and to share insights from our ongoing work. Our colleagues from Tel Aviv University - Global TAU — Chen Bitton, Guy Cohen, and Anat Cohen, represented the project and presented their study: “Lesson Plans as Windows to SRL: Insights from Pre-Service Teachers” 🎓 The study explores how GenAI-enhanced lesson plans can support the development of self-regulated learning (SRL) among future teachers, highlighting both the potential of AI tools and the need for their more explicit integration in teacher education. The EffecTive consortium continued its productive in-person meeting in Augsburg, bringing partners together for a second day of deep analysis, strategic thinking, and forward planning. 🇩🇪🤝 project-effective.eu Hosted at University of Augsburg, Day 2 focused on transforming research findings into meaningful impact for policy and practice. 📌 Day 2 Highlights: 🔹 The day began with a cost-efficiency analysis session, where partners reviewed key results and discussed how these insights contribute to the upcoming article-format deliverable. The conversation helped clarify next steps and strengthen the link between data and evidence-based conclusions. 🔹 A central session explored how EffecTive results can be translated into policy use, with each partner reflecting on their own stakeholder landscape. Discussions addressed: – Which stakeholders matter most – What decisions they are facing – Which project results are most relevant – How findings should be communicated for real impact 🔹 The workshop bridged project-level insights with case-level perspectives, connecting overall findings to concrete applications through WP4 case studies. 🔹 In the afternoon, partners focused on Cost-Benefit Framework (CBF) applications, defining how it can support decision-making and communication within case studies, while aligning tasks across all partners. 🔹 The day concluded with parallel sessions on WP3 and WP5, advancing both analytical work and exploitation strategies to ensure long-term impact beyond the project. The EffecTive consortium successfully gathered in person in Augsburg for another impactful meeting, strengthening collaboration and driving the project forward. 🇩🇪🤝 project-effective.eu Hosted at University of Augsburg, partners came together to align progress, exchange insights, and shape the next steps of the project. 📌 Day 1 Highlights: The meeting kicked off with a comprehensive introduction, setting the stage for productive discussions across work packages. 🔹 The WP2 session focused on key lessons learned from implementation across cases, identifying cross-case design patterns and refining contributions to the D2.2 deliverable. Partners worked collaboratively on harmonisation strategies and defined final action points. 🔹 During the WP3 session, discussions centered on the readiness of D3.2, exploring teacher outcomes, transfer into practice, and student equity impact. The consortium aligned on minimum reporting standards and clarified what constitutes “enough” evidence across cases. 🔹 The afternoon continued with an explanatory analysis workshop, where partners examined feasible and theoretically grounded approaches for cross-case analysis, followed by a focused meta-analysis session presenting initial hypothesis results. At Tallinn University we have just wrapped up our EffecTive project studies. 🎓 One of the studies focused on a whole-school intervention in a school participating in Estonia’s AI Leap programme, aiming to support the development of technology-enhanced learning practices among teachers, school leaders, and students. What stood out most was not the technology itself whether GenAI or other digital tools but the complexity of change at the school level. 🏫 Some expected effects on teachers appeared weaker or different than anticipated, yet we observed promising improvements in student outcomes. This highlighted something important: in whole-school interventions, results are deeply shaped by contextual conditions that often remain less visible in more traditional pre-service or in-service training settings. This case reminded us that improving teaching and learning through technology is a systemic process and that school context matters greatly. This week, our partners presented one of the project’s studies at the 21st Chais Conference, a key venue in Israel for research and innovation in learning technologies. 🎓🤖📚 We’re proud to share that the research led by Chen Bitton, together with Guy Cohen and Anat Cohen from Tel Aviv University, was nominated for the Conference Best Paper Award ✨ The study explores how pre-service teachers design for Self-Regulated Learning in GenAI-supported classrooms, showing how intentional learning design can foster deeper, process-oriented learning experiences. This paper is one example of the broader research carried out within the EffecTive project. We’re excited to share our latest study on teachers’ readiness to adopt Learning Analytics (LA) in their pedagogical practice 📊✨ The training course was designed following EffecTive pedagogical principles, with a strong focus on instructional design (using the ICAP framework), meaningful engagement, and the dynamic interplay between knowledge, skills, and motivational beliefs. 🔍 Key insights from the study: • Well-designed professional training significantly strengthens teachers’ intention to use LA • The ICAP framework fosters deeper and more meaningful engagement • Strong domain knowledge in LA is a key driver of adoption • Metacognitive self-regulation and perceived usefulness strongly influence motivation and intended use Overall, adopting Learning Analytics is a complex, multifaceted process, shaped by both course design and individual characteristics. 💡 Why does this matter for EffecTive? Because effective professional learning must address both how we teach (training design) and how teachers think and feel (beliefs, motivation, self-regulation). Today, our focus is on pre-service teachers within the EffecTive project 🌱 At Tallinn University, we are exploring how to strengthen pre-school teachers’ pedagogical digital competence and support meaningful technology integration in kindergartens—especially at a time when screen time is widely debated 📱🤔 Instead of asking “more or less technology?”, we ask a different question: 👉 How can digital tools support young children’s thinking, creativity, and collaboration? 👉 How can teachers design playful digital learning games that encourage exploration, problem-solving, and cognitive effort—rather than passive consumption? Within the EffecTive project, we integrated a mentoring component into a regular university course. This approach fostered richer professional dialogue, more individualized support, and deeper reflection on classroom practice 💬🧠 At the same time, it required greater coordination and workload for both trainers and students. Our early findings highlight one key insight: domain-specific, practice-based training really matters. When learning is closely connected to real pre-school contexts, authentic tools, and concrete classroom situations, future teachers engage more deeply and transfer ideas more effectively into practice. From 27 to 29 January 2026, the TAICo and EffecTive teams came together in Oulu 🌍🤝 to exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experiences in teacher professional learning for AI-rich education 🤖📚. We were especially excited to see how the EffecTive logic is being embedded in the TAICo professional learning framework, particularly in the design of training methods 🛠️ (from knowledge-building 📖 to collaborative design 🤝 and situated learning 🏫), and the focus on teachers’ motivational beliefs 💡✨. Interactive Workshop on Evidence-Based Teacher Training in St. Gallen ✨📚 On 27 November, our UWK team hosted an interactive workshop at the conference “How much professional development do science teachers need?” in St. Gallen, Switzerland. We introduced the Cost–Benefit Framework (CBF), a tool designed to support evidence-informed decision-making in evaluating teacher training for pedagogical digital competence. To showcase the framework in practice, we presented one of our case studies mapped onto the CBF and engaged participants in a stakeholder journey-mapping exercise, gathering valuable insights on its relevance, usability, and institutional fit.
