Increíble como, a partir de una aclaración de la IFAB sobre el protocolo del VAR en el caso de confusión de identidad, solo se acuerden del caso de Embolo durante el Suiza-Argentina y nadie hable de que exactamente la misma interpretación errónea —que fue aplaudida por todos los medios— amonestó a Almirón ante EEUU.
Ahí todos los fanáticos de la tecnología reventaron sus palmas. Ahora usarán la aclaración para seguir avivando la polémica porque es lo que vende.
Por cierto, la propia IFAB dice en el texto que se “recibió con agrado” que se haya usado dicho protocolo para gestionar las simulaciones. Así que es probable que lo seguimos viendo.

Imagine an offensive pass interference in football, which is not reviewable. But suddenly, in the conference finals, one coach challenges and OPI and it's overturned.

Yes-stupid to dive&to give the Ref&VAR a chance for a sending-off, but there were so many attempts to draw a freekick during the worldcup & in this match and also no yellow cards for that or other unsporting behaviours (delaying the restart, mass confrontation etc)… The refs showed restraint and especially because of that this Y/R card was harsch! In addition the main problem is that the #VAR protocoll didn‘t intend such correction by mistaken identity! At all a very decisive, bad decision and poor performance by the Ref João Pinheiro- again after #FCBPSG …

So basically:
Embolo dramatically flopped and rolled around like he got shot TRICKING the referee into giving Paredes a wrongful yellow. VAR obviously intervenes after watching the shameless dive/no contact.
Makes the right call in mistaken identity and gives Embolo the yellow.
Only reason this is a "controversy" is because it's Argentina. Embolo should know better if he is already on a card btw. This is how you eliminate simulation from the game.

From IFAB. This is a very generous definition of the rule and opens up to "any yellow card can be reviewed" At best, goes against the spirit of the game. At worst, misapplication of the rule
